Crossed Wires -- Sigh -- Help Please

So my battery has been dying a lot lately (probably the regulator) and last night it died and I left it at work. Today I go back to work and I asked one of security guys to give me a jump.
He hooks up his running car first, I hooked up the negative...and then....boom. I felt like I welded my battery. Turns out he crossed up his cables (the battery didn't show which was + and - and both the cables were black, I know he feels really bad and he was just trying to help) and now my bike shows no sign of any power. Red oil light doesn't light up, neither does neutral, just nothing.

I checked the battery and its got a charge.
Is it a fuse? Battery Cables? Computer? Is it a lot of things? Where do I start? What tools will I need?

I have a feeling this is not going to be a fun weekend.
Any help would be appreciated, pictures are good too

Oh yeah:
It's 2004 GS500F 7k miles - stock.

Thanks guys!

That sucks dude.  Glad you have a good attitude about it and aren't blaming him since he was just trying to help.  I don't know much about the electrics but would have to hope that maybe you just blew a fuse or relay.  Good luck getting it fixed.

Process of elimination, start with the cables ground and positive (did they melt and or loose contact during the short circuit?), check the fuse, relay, solenoid... etc.  Good luck.

These guys are essentially on the right track ... Its like this.
Motorcycle battery with reversed polarity = fuse blow.
Car running + car battery with reversed polarity ... hopefully is just fuse blowing ...
Cool.

The electrical system will have seen a huge surge which will have taken the fuse out, thats for sure, if you are lucky it will have popped before it got to the reg/rect but its hard to say for certain....worst case scenario is a blown fuse, a couple of popped idiot lights and a fried reg/rect, maybe a burnt neutral light switch too.  It would be worth getting the battery load tested at a auto-electrical shop as well.

just switched out the fuse....all is well :)
thanks guys!

You are really lucky that none of the smoke escaped from the wiring, without that you'd be history. Replacement metric smoke is hard to find.

Awesome!  Nothing like thinking you are totally screwed and going to have to spend mucho deniro and then find out it just a 50 cent fuse.
