Went to the track last night.  Bike is running better with the 135 jets (up from 130).  My times dropped from 14.80's with the 130 jets to 14.40's with the 135 jets.  Best ET was 14.46@91.xx mph with a .555 reaction time.

Confirmed kills:
GSXR750
Honda CBR929RR
Suzuki Bandit (don't know the displacement but looked like a 650cc?)

Lost to a race prepped GSXR1000 that passed me at 140+....

Next week (hopefully) I will be jetted up to 140's and slowing down.  Then I'll back it off a step, put on the supertrapp, and do it over again.  I had been considering going to a 15 tooth front sprocket to get some ET but I dunno.....  I am shifting at 11,000rpms and I cross the finish line at 11,000 rpms in 4th gear.  If I gear it down I will end up shifting into 5th and I believe that's an overdrive gear so......counter productive.  Think I'll leave it for now as the gearing seems to be right for the track and rpms.

Interesting to note.  My first run was my fastest and this one was fresh off the freeway, then idling in traffic, then maybe 10 minutes in tech and straight to the starting line.  Lots of heat in the bike - no cool down time.  Then as I got time in between runs (more people showing up) the bike slowed from 14.40's to 14.70's.  In the later rounds (people eliminated and gone home) where I had less time between runs, the bike picked up.  When racing a car you NEVER let it idle.  The Suzuki seems to be opposite, more heat in the bike = faster.

Greg Gabis, if you are reading this.  Have noticed this trait on your GS450?  I am wondering if it is something relating to air cooled vs. water cooled machines.

Current mods to bike are the K&N RU-2970 filter, 135 main jets, 37.5 pilots, 3.5 turns out on the screws and one washer on the needle.  I want a 13.90 ET!!!!!!!!!!!!  The girl on the Bandit was running 13.80's and I wanna catch her.

I haven't done enough runs to know for sure. My variations in E/T usually come from technique or lack thereof rather than other factors.

I know from experience that if you have lean jetting, you'll want the bike to be warm for best performance. Roll on from 4-6 grand usually results in a hesitation when cold if yer lean as the cool charge rushes in and quenches combustion.

If yer staying above 7 grand, I'm not sure if engine temp is the reason E/T will change. What about ambient air temps? If yer running in the evening, as the air cools you'll get a more O2. If yer on the lean side, you'll lean out even more, perhaps to the point it affects E/T?

All just speculation, tho'.

What you really need is onboard DA with real time O2 sensor, head temp, rpm and a weather station for ambient conditions. ;)

Hmmmm.....  you give me lots to consider.

I leave the line at 7 grand and feed in clutch pretty quickly.  As quick as I can without bringing the front end up.

I try not to let the revs drop below about 6 grand.  I believe I might be one or two steps lean so I'm richening it up two steps for next week and  we'll see.

I want another shot at that GSXR1000....

It sounds like you're having some good results in your jet experiementing.

I was wondering which track you're going to since your location says California.  Do you know the elevation?  I think the track in LA is a little higher and Sears Point is pretty close to sea level.  I think Sac is pretty low too.  It would be cool if you could post your 1/8 mile time and 60' times.  I know this bike lacks the top end speed so I'm curious what the 1/8 mile times are.

Don't time slips usually tell you the temperature and humidity for the race?  I haven't actually taken any of my vehicles to the track but I know they cram a lot of info on the slip ;)

i think v8pinto is in sacramento..

so he is probably using the tracks near CSUS...

I am in Sacramento.  I think the elevation is between 20-100ft above sea level, if that (I was never any good in geography  ;)

I have a time slip here in my jacket, it doesn't show temp and it's not my fastest but here is the info:

Dial in                                     14.45
Reation time                           .665
I1 (I believe this is the 60 ft)     2.178
I2                                           5.993
I3                                           9.245
MPH (I3)                                 75.206
I4                                           12.135

ET                                          14.650
MPH                                       89.369

Over/Under                             .200
                                            WIN

I had a 60 ft as low as 2.00 on one run.  It's funny, I can feel the launch a lot better on the bike than in a car.  Is there any benefit to putting some weight on your feet while the bike takes off (for the first instant) and then sitting down?  I don't mean like STANDING UP or anything.  I just noticed that my 2.00 60 ft. run was a real good launch and I sorta let the bike take off first and then let it carry me as opposed to just sitting there fat-and-happy on the seat and taking off.

I was a bit surprised by the sportbike contingent.  They are a little tribe like.  They stick together.

I am sorta from the "bikes is bikes" generation so this is different for me.  I just sit by myself by the fence in between runs and visualize spanking them on the launch    :thumb:

Do you know what the interval distances on the time slip are?  They used to say 60 ft, 330 ft, 660 ft....  something like that (it's been a few years for me).
