That is the 2009 Aprilia RSV4.

1000cc V4 open class Superbike. Sex yeah, maintenance nightmare let's not go there I have a friend with a Mille he wound up bodging together a clutch from suzuki and kawasaki parts, to get the one for his bike was $254 and an 8 to 12 week wait for it to get here from Italy.

You best be able to speak Italian and not mind waiting for overseas parts orders.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

The Buddha

Yea, and the mille's will get killed by a TL/S-R or an SV1000. They are top heavy and just weird. 60 degree V twin BS.
This crap I dunno, BTW I think italian parts can be bought cheaper via places like parts depot etc ... the dealers have insane markups. The triumph stuff too, but so much of those are japaneese though.
Cool.

i used to spank all other twins well in-lines too with my 98 tl1000r back in the day when i was racing.  ducs, r1's, mille, cbr 1000 u name it my suzuki tlr1000 with full yosh system,  some ohlins to the suspension, re-jet and other work along with a maniac for a rider :) were unbeatable.

The TLR was a beast.  The SV1000 is a castrated beast, but there are a few things you can do to sew the testes back on...

frankieG

true enough..you can add titanium valves then jet her up as well and putting in a slipper clutch to keep the wheel hop down.

The 1000 actually comes with a slipper clutch.  But it does respond well to a little love on the exhaust and FI side.  And some weightshedding.

M'boy's SV1000 is becoming more beastial the more he does to it.

frankieG

the sv1000 has a slipper clutch? i did not know that off the top of my head.   tuning and the tit valves are needed.  i killed a few engines from removing the rev limiter for the track.  but the valve job did the trick and gave me more torque..like it needed more :) and let me keep my engine together.  the supension changes with ss lines made for cornering like butter and jumping out atop of anyone else.  man i wish i had a tiller again :)

Yep.  The SV1000S isn't an SV650 with a bigger engine; the clutch is better, the bike is bigger, the suspension is far, far better.  That being said, m'boy still switched to a GSX-R1000 suspension.

Ach, engine internals... it's always dangerous to go down that road.  I have yet to see an internal engine mod that doesn't eventually mean more maintenace.  I'll do it on my track bike and dirtbike, but for a streetbike - I'll take the power hit to not have to wrench on it much.

The SV1000 does not come with a slipper clutch, but rather a "Back Torque Limiting Clutch System".  It doesn't work as well as a slipper clutch, and it kinda feels a little weird, as if there were a giant rubber band down there.

I read somewhere that a few companies make some good ignition advancers for the SV1000.  I can't remember the brand name I read a review on (in Cycle World), but their test was on a ZX-14, but I also remember reading that they made an application for the SV1000.  On the ZX-14, apples to oranges ...I know, it added as much 14 extra horses in the low and midrange while not sacrificing anything on top end. Double digit horsepower gains would be a nice extra few stitches to get those testes back on.

EDIT, EDIT, EDIT, EDIT!!!!!!!! :

Suddenly it came to me today at work and I realized why I couldn't remember the name of the company.   :cookoo:  It was because I had name of the product WRONG as well.    It's Ivan's TRE--Timing Retarder Eliminator.  It seems fairly easy to install, and seems to provide a pretty reasonable power bump for the price.  Just expect your gear indicator to constantly read 6 while it's connected.

...granted, a stock SV1000 would have more testes than I NEED.

As I understand it, a slipper clutch with limited slipping.  A limited-slip slipper?

Anyone seen the Ferrari V4 superbike concept?   That thing gives me funny feelings in my pants.

terry, i must ask your geneology sir. are you of italian descent? you seem to have a hard on for anything italian. nothing wrong with that, i find italian cars, bikes etc sexy as hell too. just not affordable.  (my wife and i also agree that italian is the most beautiful language. my grandparents are italian, taught me a bit when i was a young lad, but it's long since been forgotten. ) :thumb:

more or less, yes.  I have had some seat time on a 2004 R1 and the slipper clutch of that bike seems to function quite a bit better than the setup on the SV1000
