thank you, thank you. will post some pics as soon as possible. Buddah-san, Royal Purple is the oil the previous owner was using in this bike. I know it's a synthetic, what's your experience with this, and is there another lube you would recommend as an alternative?
Also, the header pipes need to be refinished, can you or one of the other folks here recommend a high temp flat black
paint that will hold up (reasonably well) for this application?
many thanks....
ooooommmmmmmmm.

Congrats dude, I wish I could have found a newer model like a 97, (me with my 93) because they didn't paint them purple after 94  :cookoo:.  Its a great bike as far as I have heard and I'm sure it'll be great for as long as you want it.  Then you can move up to a supersport or literbike when you feel comfortable.  Please give us some pics cause I need some color combo ideas. :thumb:

My 2001 GS500 was totalled Nov 4 2008
Now own 2003 SV1000 and love it!

Royal purple oil will turn your bike purple ... so I never use it ...
BTW I am a huge fan of walmart's 10W40 Accel oil, its SF rated and is cheap and good. Its non synthetic though ...
Cool.

I thought it turned your tongue purple?

I use Castrol Actevo because they sell it in great big jugs.

I use the high-temperature flat black paint they sell at the hardware store for grills and the like on grody headers, and it works great.  Just make sure you clean the pipes well - sand off any rust or corrosion, wash, rinse, dry; spray many thin coats.

The Buddha

R'gal is right on exhaust paint ... I didn;t have a brand I could recall ... but thin coats and lots of it ... BTW thick coats will run, but who cares, its a header pipe, doesn't have to look smooth as glass.
Remember when the pipe comes to temp it will cook the paint ... tons of smoke is common. You want ot cook it all in the first startup ... so get it hot and let it run till it stops smoking.
Cool.
