Did I screw up my carb components?

Let the small bits w/ the orings on soak in the yamaha cleaner (water soluble) overnight.  I notice the orings on the pilot screw isn't as tight as before and now holding down the spring and washer underneath it.  Anyone else had experience soaking their small parts in the Yamaho cleaner and had issues w/ the non metal parts, I thought it was safe to use and people dunk their whole carbs into it overnight?

The solvent enters into the rubber compound and causes the O-rings to expand.

They should be replaced in any case.   :thumb:
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

thanks, could someone tell me if that particular oring is suppose to sit on that pretty tightly?

I told you not to ... anyway this was not the side effect I was afraid of though ...
The mix screw is like this ... looking at the way the carbs sit in the bike ... O ring on top, washer right below it, spring right below it, and screw that goes from under it all to a point above it all. I clean it with spray ... never with solvent ... that yamaha crap can ... I dunno ... I thought it was safe for rubber.
Anyway dude, I dont have the O ring in the set I sent you ... Its not a commonly pulled and destroyed O ring. You should ahve told me you were attempting somethign funky like this ... Yamaha BS attacks the base carb body metal more than I like. It may have eaten a bit more of that area than can get the threads tight and seated.
Check into it ... if you need it, I'll mail you a pair ...

Thanks Sr***th, I was under the impression the cleaner will etch the metal but will leave the soft bits alone (according to their instructions and the Yamaha tech, you dunk the whole carb in)  Man, I went from over cautious (soap and light scrub only) to going overboard .  Now I'm worry if I goof'ed up everything else (I dunked everything else but the carb body and the black parts on top (top cap + diaphram) in.  Hope it's not too expensive of a lesson to learn.  I'll try to put the thing back together this weekend.  If that pilot oring doesn't seat perfectly, what could go wrong?  I'll also head to the hardware store to see if they have something that may work.

That O ring is 1mm wall and 3mm ID - freaking impossible to find ... I have a few, got them as some part of a 1000 piece or similar pack some years ago ... these sat unused cos I bought that kit for the keihein intercarb connection tube O rings ... 3 sets of the idiotic keiheins lost those O rings in the span of 3 months ... honda and kawi ... anyway ... in the last 6 months I used up all but 1-2 of these ... good luck though ... I ahve to find more somewhere ...
