Hi,

This past weekend I was riding out on the highway to get some dinner and my GS500F was apparently mistaken for something else.  Two fellows on (I think) liter bikes merged onto the highway, and apparently saw me and wanted to do a little impromptu racing.  They waited for me to race by them for like 4 miles - one of the guys was staring back over his shoulder at me for most of the time.  After that I guess their exit came up and we parted ways.

I was laughing pretty hard the whole time - I just thought I'd share.

They know exactly what you're riding and were taunting you...  :flipoff:

The GS is plenty fast for incredibly stupid impromptu racing on the interstate. I've done it on two occasions, both against cars, always late at night.
Once against a Lancer on the Express-lanes, kept it topped out at 105 and he still beat me  :dunno_white:
Second time I was just riding along in the HOV lane when a riced out WRX came screaming by me going at least 90, then two other ricer cars showed up and the three of them did a weird dance through traffic. It wasn't really a race but I was keeping a steady 90mph while they would pass me and drop back through traffic. I couldn't help myself, I was trying to figure out what they were doing.
It was weird that they had no problem endangering everyones lives by zooming past cars like they were standing still and breaking the law, but they refused to ever enter the HOV lane.  :cookoo:

I want a WRX badly. It's a beautiful car.
I wouldn't race it tho on the public street!!

About the liter riders: there were either blind or were teasing you. Ignore them and keep the pace you feel comfortable in!!

I real race is not about speed its about the rider and his ability. I have raced on freeways and canyons even streets against cars and bikes. my first time was at latigo canyon against my buds gixx 750, when I got to the bottom i had enough time get take my gear off and snap a few pics of my bike a watch him ride down the last turn ability not speed. the second was against a turbod out ricer this was on the street from a red light both were first in line and on green we let em rip after first I tucked in under the screen and clutchless shifted my ass off shifting around 10.5k the guys was a good 1 car behind me when I eased off the gas from their I just toyed with him speeding up and down that was fun. a good freeway one was against a kawi 650 if i wasn't mistaken, that one was a draw to be honesty we both kept up with each other the guy seemed to know how to ride his bike and once done we waved goodbye to each other and I took my exit. oh and toping out at 105 you may need to give your bike a good look over or a darn good tune-up, my GS will top out at 155mph with a 13t front sprocket, with the 15t around 125mph stock I dont remember but well over 105.

Well to be honest I could care less what they were doing.  I'll go with the idea that they had no clue what I was riding (they were in front of me by about 2000 ft before the two highways merged) and enjoy myself.  I have no problem riding as fast as my GS will take me, and I've been riding with some 600s (R6, YZF600R, GSXR600) and while of course they are much faster on the straights, keeping up in what twisties there are around here was no problem.  One thing I don't personally get with some of these guys is that they're not afraid to lay on their seat arms and legs spread, do 90 mph power wheelies and all sorts of other crap but they're afraid to take a curve at 50 mph at the end of the line.  Whats up with that?

Can someone else verify that my bike needs a tune up if I can only hit 105? I'm pretty sure on flat ground I've never seen my speedometer fully hit 110. I'm the 3rd owner of a 2006 and I've never checked the front sprocket so for all I know there is a 17t in there, but overall my bike runs great and I've never heard of a GS hitting 155. You sure your not actually sitting on an SV650  ;)?

Uhhh, mach, the smaller the front sprocket, the lower the top speed.  Do your math again and come back with some believable figures.  f%$k, I think the theoretical max with stock gearing is only like 140.

Speedo overeads by about 10% so........knock 11.5 off the indicated 115 and you have a (beliveable) figure of about 102.5mph.
