So I just got a 2004 gs500f, a kid wrecked it with only 256 miles on it, and it probably sat in an insurance lot for a long time. I started it to make sure it ran, and put it in every gear so that's good, but it doesn't idle well at all. I know there should be a warm up period, but the idle floats around alot, i started it with full choke and it would flutter between 3k and 4k, and if i tried to give it any gas it would die. I searched but didn't think any results were really applicable here. what are the first things i should check and/or do? thanks.

pull the carb jets and clean, check your float heights, clean all and re install.  Lots of how to's here or on the wiki.
Attack but have a back up plan

make sure no vacume leaks or the carbs didnt take a jar and loosen the intake boots also. +1 on the carbs and float height. Oh and throtle cable. if it was front end damage.
Current project:
Mmotos full body kit (YOU DONT WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THEM... READ MY THREAD BOOT STATE UPDATE)
K&N Lunchbox
Buddah's jets
CBR F2 rearsets
Ducati pass pegs (Modified)
Kat rear wheel
Carbon Fiber Exhaust Can, possibly shortened and relocated
And so on......
