Want to paint my bike

Well, just the tank, fairing, and front spoiler.  I want to go with a copper metallic, brown metallic or orange metallic.  I've painted car parts before and they turned out pretty good.  I'd imagine it would be no different with bike parts.

I figure I'd sand it down with some 360 grit just to scuff it up a bit, make for a good surface to prime.  Prime it up, paint it up with a couple good, even coats sanding with a higher grit in between, and then clear coat the piss out of it and a good wet sand to finish it up.

Might be a dumb question but is anything different between spray bombing moldings or body kits for cars and spray bombing a gas tank?

You have to make sure the paint on your gas tank will not dissolve when it comes in contact with gas... Unlike a car, it is nearly impossible to fill up the tank without spilling some, which will lead to sadness if you don't use the right type of paint. Many other people have posted on this before, a search might dig up some wisdom on making your paint gas resistant..

I think you can buy a clear coat that is gasoline resistant so that you can use whatever paint you want. Make sure all the brands/types of paints you use work well together, its easiest just to stick with one line of paints/primers/coats.
