While I hate the idea of the Electoral College, I've been shocked to find out the people that have supported it throughout the years (JFK?  I'm too lazy to find a source on this).

The people of Florida, Texas, and California should hate the Electoral College the most.  Because of this system, the citizens of those three states count the least for the winning president.  While each citizen in Wyoming, D.C. and Vermont count for the most.  (Check it:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_population and sort by Pop. per
electoral vote)

The "lacking technology" answer is true, but not the whole truth.  Yes, it's true that each regional government chose a representative for the presidential election to prevent people voting for a candidate that wasn't in-line with their own beliefs.  Imagine how easy it would be to misinform the voting citizens of a small town that had no TV, Radio, Telegraph, or News Papers.  Any candidate could show up, lie his ass off and move on.

But, there's more to it.  The way our government was designed, the office of President is not supposed to have the power it does, nor should the Federal Government.  Neither the Feds nor any Federal office should have any power or influence on a single citizen or their day-to-day lives.  Things like marriage, land ownership, speed limits, drinking age, and other non-inalienable rights are solely up to the state, county, and city governments.  But today the Feds have their fingers in everything.  They convince state governments to change their laws without the input of their citizens by threatening the state to withdraw Federal Funding.  (OK...  Enough of this constitutional rambling).

SO!  The President was supposed to be the "Governor of all States," not the "Governor of each Citizen."  This is why each STATE votes, rather than each citizen.

Personally, I'd rather have the job of the President return to what it should be:  A Check and/or a Balance of the lawmakers (House and Senate), NOT a lawmaker itself.  If the President was what it was intended to be, then the electoral collage would be loved by most.

some of you guys are just speaking and acting nutty.  it worries me cuz it is usually these right wing nuts that assassinate democrat and progressive president.  why "hide" weapons?  besides any "great hiding places" you genius' think you know of has already been done before and are known to authorities.    if anyone has destroyed our constitution it has been republicans, the right and bush/cheney.  in stead of worrying about the electoral college i would be more worried about republican reps who are criminally convicted running and winning office. why? because the governor can appoint a new rep.  where is the democracy in that? no where that's where.   if a seat is vacant a bye election should be called.  so up in Alaska they re-elected a criminal who is going to jail and whats her name is going to either put herself as rep or another republican.

Technically, of the four presidents that were assassinated, three were Republicans.  Garfield was shot by another Republican, Lincoln was shot by a confederate sympathizer, and McKinley was shot by an Anarchist.  The lone Democratic president was officially assassinated by a communist.

1.   Please think of assassinated Presidents as American Presidents, not Republicans and Democrats.

2.  The Bush administration hasn't exactly been great for the constitution.  See The Patriot Act and American citizens held on American soil without charge during the War on Terror for more information.

3.  Obama isn't taking anyone's guns.  If he does, he will lose the South and hence the 2012 election, and he knows it.

4.  If you guys want nutty, read the quote from the Texas Longorn's lineman that got him kicked off the team.

progressive, hell frankie changin liberal again, hell hes a liberal, and a socialist. OR a liberal with socialist views. a socialist is an extreme liberal., liberal, progressive SOS DD ( = same old s**t different day)and no franko, im not a republican. nor am i a democrat, nor am i a liberal, i am what one might say a conservative indepentant demican translation. unlike you or others, i look at all regardless of political affiliations or who or what they are/represent. he is now our leader. or will be  jan20, and so ill support him for 4 years, ( minimum) as  long as no legal challenges come up. but if tehy did, i guarantee you wouldnt say anything about it. i never hear a liberal gripe about mis-doings of a liberal. nor do i hear a conservqative do likewise.  weird Eh?. this is why im an independant. i look at all, and criticise all, ( including bush), plus i am open minded, i looked at obamas records, ( what i could drag up anyway, as well as mccains, as well as barr's, as well as a whole slew of others.

I have faith in Osama sorry Obama, He wont change anything all that talk of change this and change that is all to make you guys vote for him they throw out as much BS as they can within reason and whoever takes the bait is a win for him. No one man can change this country no party (rep/dem) can change this country, BS :bs: This country can change this country but as said before we are torn in two Dems and Reps, how can a two groups with two view ever change something. as far as my president goes he is NOTW I can care less what the US's Face says or does when my president wants to change something he will its all in his plan and we cant change a thing. so put faith in a single human but he has no REAL power, and as far as voting goes we dont make a difference they pick who will be the better spokesman.

mach that is so juvenile the so called spelling error.  it takes a perfectly good post and turfs it out the window, as well as lessens your credibility as a intelligent person.   to think the president of the united states has "no real power" is plain silly at best.   american politics 101 can explain how.

G.W. Bush used "Executive Orders" to do whatever he wanted.  Pretty much why he got the nickname "King George II."  Executive Orders are a bullsh!t way for the President to abuse his power.  You should be happy that Obama is talking about repealing existing Executive Orders.

And...  WHY are you all fighting about bullsh!t that hasn't happened and probably won't?  You're all being distracted from the real problems here.  Our economy is in the crapper and our environment is circling the drain.  If you'd rather fight than work together, then YOU are the problem.  Get over the BS and work together.  A house divided can't stand.
