I wanted to feel the place out for a while before I posted this. My wife cosigned for my son the GS I have now. He fell behind in the payments (10 months) and I got it. This was after a major warrenty problem that I posted on another thread. Here's what happened.
Bike started knocking at 6500 miles and 4 months old, It had just got it's second oil change. The real pisser is it was under warrenty and the scum at Strites Motor Sports in Gainsville Florida lied through their teeth and said the bike was ran out of oil. IT WAS NOT!!! And Suzuki coorprate wouldn't lift a finger either. One other thing, they got the bike the last day of feburary and didn't turn a wrench on it until May 16 and still tried to hose me for 2800 dollars to rebuild it. It still cost 550 to get the motor back in a box. I took the box of parts to 2 different machinacs and they both said the same thing, one bad right side rod bearing and it definately was not ran out of oil. I think I'll start a thread on this but I wanted to feel the place out first.
Has anyone else had issues like this from Suzuki dealers or is this just a isolated incident from a very bad dealer. BTW I'll NEVER buy another new bike again for anything or anyone.

Dude, you're getting hosed!  I'd raise some holy H-E-Double-hockey-sticks.  I'd be up corporate's butt about that until they refund all that you've paid thus far and make things right!  My bike was thoroughly used when I got it, but my approach with corporate wouldn't change!   :bs:

you're completely right about buying new bikes. it's just, well, pointless. the warranties are bunk, the initial price extreme, the service is expensive, the list goes on.

as far as a claim for the warranty work, i think you'll lose. they claimed oil starvation, possibly tossed in a set of bad pistons/rods to make it look like it. i'd be it really was starvation though, but not your fault. possibly a bad oil pump. more likely a bad oil change, and revving it with not enough oil. (maybe not checked correctly?)

good luck with recouping your cash, and i hope you get to enjoy the gs some. :)

The 2 seperate machinacs both said oil sump starvation was not the issue. Both said it appeared it was a torque issue. Basicly it loosened up and there was no other damage to the motor except the rod and crank. Strites said it needed everything on the top, head, cam, lifters, valves, timing chain, jugs, pistons, rods and a crank. It did need a crank and one piston rod, thats it. It's a moot subject now. I did crawl up several of cooporates butts to no avail. I raised cane with everyone who would listen and many who didn't want to listen. What it boils down to is, the only vehicials covered under the lemon law are cars and light trucks. Any thing else, hire a lawyer and those were the exact words I got from one of the pinheads at coorporate. I had to either commute a dozen times 650 miles round trip to sue Strites Suzuki or suck it up and write it off as a lesson learned. Well I've got better things to do with my time than wear a rut in I75 between Homestead and Gainesville.
What I learned. I've heard here and I will back it up. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy a new bike and espeically a new Suzuki and from my research a Kawasaki either, their warrenties aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Honda and Yamaha on the other hand do seem to honor their warrenties much better.
It is also funny that one of you mentioned throwing excessivily worn parts that didn't come from this motor. There was a crank and rod in the box when my son picked it up that had been so straved of oil it was blue. The thieves at Strites had shown it to him to "prove" their point or neglect. Problem is when the machinacs looked at them they weren't even Suzuki parts. They were from a Yamaha ATV.
I've put about 10k miles on it in the past year without any problems. I change the oil every 3k with 10/40 Mobil 1 synthetic and Slick 50. It's time for a new chain and the DID o ring should be here tomorrow (thank to this forum). I will be adding risers to the bars, gel grips, redo the seat and over stuff it with memory foam to make it a little more comfortable on longer trips with the wifie.

man, that sucks. sorry you had to eat the re-build. :(

also sorry you lost faith in stealerships (those parts listed are permission for the riot act reading !) as a whole. :(

really glad you've steeled (ouch, that was a bad pun) yourself to DIY what you can. hope you can find a couple of competent mechanics to give you pointers and advice. the chain change isn't terrible. should be able to do it, a wheel alignment, and a valve adjustment in a saturday morning.

get on the list for the valve adjustment kit. it's the coolest thing. :)

ride on !

I've already put 10k on the bike since the incindent. 600 bucks for a motor with 900 miles on it and all was good. That's the good thing about sticking with what most folks consider a starter bike. There,re just that...starter bikes, which means there are plenty of bikes that have been wrecked lyeilding a whole bunch of parts.
