London, Ontario according to his profile.   :)   I paid $2700 for my 02 in Sept of 03 with about 4500 miles on it.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

Thanks Jack, guess after looking at soo many people that dont put in there where they are from, I just dont look anymore  :icon_mrgreen:

I still would like to know what you mean by "certified" here in the US you cannot have your bike "certified" by the dealer or anyone.

In order to register a vehicle for road use in Ontario, it must first be safety certified by a licensed mechanic. Most buyers request this certification prior to purchase of the vehicle because it avoids headaches later on. The certification is not a guarantee that the vehicle is in good condition, only that it meets basic safety criteria (undamaged frame, working brakes, working lights, etc.).

The alternative is to sell the bike "AS IS", but this usually results in a lower selling price because the buyer cannot register the vehicle until the safety certificate is obtained.

From the Ontario government website (http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/vehicle/used.htm#safety):

Safety standards certificate
To register a motor vehicle as fit, you must have a safety standards certificate. An authorized mechanic at a government approved Motor Vehicle Inspection Station inspects the vehicle, for a fee, and issues a signed certificate if the vehicle passes inspection. The certificate is valid for 36 days from the date of the inspection. The certificate is not a warranty or guarantee on the general condition of the vehicle.

I agree that $3600 - $4000 is probably too high, but it's hard to say. In Canada, bikes seem to sell for well above the equivalent in the USA. I guess it's a product of lower supply?  :dunno_white:

In my opinion, the best thing to do is monitor Craigslist ads (based on your post, it seems you have already done this). Keep in mind that most sellers will not actually get the asking price posted in their ad.

When you have decided on an asking price, put up your own ad and see how many replies you get. Keep in mind that it's about to dump snow in Ontario and nobody's thinking about motorycles at this time of year! Also, fenderectomy and K&N "modifications" tend to reduce the value of a bike. :icon_rolleyes: A completely stock bike will almost always attract more buyer attention.

Good luck with the sale. Don't forget to tell the buyer about gstwin.com

As others have stated, in the US you can do much better on price.

However...  I'm not familiar with Canadian regulations, nor are any other US GStwins members.   It may be that it is a fair price considering your regulations, etc.

I would wait for a few Canadian members to chime in.  :)
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Sounds like a MOT from the UK , Every single Vehicle on the road Must have one of these , or ur insurance is Invaladated, and thats a 12 month ban for no Insurance. and i think its a extra 3 points for no Mot.

ya sorry in order to get a vehicle's plates you need a safety to be performed. and literally every gs500 02-07 in the ontario region is at an asking price of 4700+ so im just playing to the market. my buddy originally paid 3800 for it but it needed tires and an airfilter.

Woah, crazy. Here in California there is no requirement that anyone ever look at your motorcycle ever. The only time you could ever get dinged for safety gear is if a cop feels like pulling you over. There's no way anything like a bent frame would ever prevent you from registering and riding a bike around, besides it being a bad idea...

Jay_wolf

The British Mot. Is a very high standerd

a bent frame would fail on the spot , tires below the tread limit , None E marked Lights, indie's ,Emmissions, None E marked exhaust etc

then again is doesnt Make sure the Bike/car is in road legal standard , My friend has a 1995 Ford Fiesta , i have a 1996 Ford fiesta , I took my exhaust off , my lights , My wheels because of the tyres , and we put them on his car to pass his mot ,then the next day , he put his none E marked lights , his Decat Exhaust, and Id say baldish tyres, but the paperwork said it was fine , if a Police officer thinks it isnt of road legal standerd , they can take it to have checks on it etc

I have been reading prices on GS's on this site for several months. I live in Cincinnati and the prices around here are higher than most I have seen on this site. I paid $2300 for my 1993 GS500E and it needed new bars and a rear tire. I did buy it at the hight of the $4.00+ gas prices which I'm sure drove the bike prices up a bit. I still see them in the $2000 range. I currently have mine listed for sale asking $2200, dont really expect it to sell until spring though.
Enjoy!

ya in canada with cars and bikes you need the safety and yes there are ways around it like paying someone to write it but alot of places wont cause if somethin happens then the technician is respoonsible for what ever happens. also you could throw someone elses tires on or soemthing like that. a police officer can do a side of the road safety but it rarely happens and its usually just horn light and tire check.
