well its hard to type w one hand.

I was traveling on a pretty busy evening in atl ga.  Night time, @ 6:20pm.  Was going maybe 25mph when one car turned left in front of me at the light/ intersection.

The 2nd car attempted to turn but stopped, then went anyways.  When I saw her go it was to late for me to do much but hit my brakes and brace myself.  I hit her rear right door area (4door car).  I flew off to the left and spun 360 deg I think.  Landed on my feet/knees I think.  Imediately noticed my wrist was hurt and groin area hurt.  I held my wrist and got out of the road.  A few witnesses helped call 911 and got the bike to the side.  I didnt speak to anyone much.  Someone gave me water as I tend to get weak during injuries.

There was no gear damage!  They wanted to cut my joe rocket jacket off but wasnt having that.  I carefully slipped it off around my crooked wrist.  The gloves I wore are fine too.  Im lucky cause at this time I havnt been able to get better/more gear- I have no riding pants , was wearing jeans.  I wear sneakers.  and a 3/4 helmet.  I will buy a full face before I get back on the saddle.

Im not sur how this went down really.  The tank dents R crazy!  Never thought my body could do that.  The left handlbars r crazy.  I think  I broke my wrist on that.  The forks r bent, the tire touches the headers.  Theres a big hole on bottom of the crankcase on the left side.

Thats about it really , feel free to ask ?s.

man, you know that's the typical crash that kills cyclists, right  ? left turn of death.

thanks for the update. hope you can heal up fully. hand stuff is a long road to 100%, if ever. :(

i would imagine this would be a good time to consider suing the driver, and his/her insurance company. was the driver cited ? did they even have a turn signal on ?

i know it's hard to type now, but it's likely better to jot it down so you can reflect later.

heal up :)

well if they're THAT big.. they are probly pretty damn hairy.

and you know, not too many guys can turn a motorcycle mishap into a sweet thing.  If you can't pick up chicks with that dent in your tank...  it could go like this ... "Hey babe, you think thats impressive?  you should see the dent in my tank"  or something like that...feel free to improvise.   8)

So sorry 'bout your mishap! Can't even relate to the tank damage being I ain't got no junk in that part of my trunk! Did you have a female medic? She might have been looking for priapism too (sorry old female EMT joke). When males have a head injury or uhm brain injury not to get heads mixed up here; well the other head will come up too which is a bad sign! I don't know how many men looked at me like I was a pervert when I would ask them that or have to physically check! Anyhow way off track.

I was always wondering what the best method is of going through an intersection. I get off late at night and usually go through intersections where I tend to always get to the light as it is changing to green. Do you haul butt through them to get through or do you slow down so you can double check? At 1 or 2 in the morning people tend to think the lights are optional for some strange reason and I fear a T-bone incident.

Also, since you are an artist don't sign off immediately on the insurance in a lump sum. You may need extensive physical/occupational therapy for quite sometime and may even have permanent damage. If you do sign off make sure there is a clause for future treatment if trouble re-arises.

Feel better!

That's what I'm saying.
Just walk around with a pic of that on you and bust it out when you see something you like. "Hey, check out what my dong can do"

Never know though, you might scare em away with it. But that might not be a bad thing. You'll be weeding out the weak ones.

i try not to ride too late at night because all of the boozers tend to roam the streets around that time. but when i do, i usually drive slower than usual. there's a lot of jackasses in their cars that like to speed through local streets at late night. a couple of drinks makes them think they're in a formula one! just let them pass and ride safely!  :thumb:

stay safe!

I always go slow and double check intersections because every single cage on the road is trying to kill me. Sorry about your accident bro- make sure the insurance company pays.

Domindart

never hawl ass thru an intersection.  on a bike.  in a car its okay.  the cage will protect u.  lol.

on a bike u come up very fast .  I am always catious at intersections.  pick ur times to let loose, its a very dangerous world.  I dont know if she had a blinker on.  If I dont gain enough motion back in my wrist I will b mad.  The girl said she didnt see me due to my black gear.  Bull.  I have a big round headlight.  She was given a ticket.  The ins co is paying out at the end of everything.

The forks are bent up pretty good. If there's any frame damage the insurance co might even buy it from you for the bb value

Malatesta

Yikes.

Glad to hear your okay...well, at least alive.  That wrist injury and tank damage is serious.

"Left turn of death" and nightfall/evening is just a baaad combo.   :o

that's totally fixable. bent forks, handle bars, dented tank.    my bike came with a dented tank, bent forks, bent handle bars, and a bent front cowling brace. $100 later i have everything fixed. Here's what you do, argue for whatever amount of cash you want for said totalled bike. then once the insurance company takes it and gives you your cash, contact them and ask them what lot they put they bike in. go there and tell the owner that you want to buy the bike for ________ (insert very low amount of money) and now you have your bike, and a bunch of cash, fix it for like $100 and be happy. a good friend of mine did this with his car 3 times.

Having been through this with one of my sons and having a friend go through it there are a few things you need to know.
First if your health insurance is taking care of the medicial bills they will want to be reimbersed if they know all the details and know you have gotten a settlement.
Second, NEVER take the first offer from her insurance co. They will low ball you severily and try to get you to sign a release, DO NOT sign a release until you are sure you will be alright.
third, make certian you add your time off from work in full.
Forth, if you feel uncomfortable pay a lawyer for a consultation and have them read anything before you sign it. A couple of hundred bucks could save you thousands. Only commit with one on a contingency basis (% of the claim) as a last resort. There is no reason to give the blood suckers 40% of your pain and suffering unless all else fails.  Better to get all of X amount than 50 or 60% of X plus a little bit.

I'd be willing to bet their first offer will be around 5K depending on her coverage, you will be able to get more by holding out a bit. Try to settle for the bike and keep the medicial opened.
Most important before you sign anything have a lawyer read it first.
It is far better to attempt mighty things than take rank with those poor souls who know neither victory nor defeat.

thnx for the advice guys, really appreciate it!

The ins co, her ins co is waiting till the end of everything.  I just want to B treated fairly.  If I cant bend my wrist right for art I will b pissed.  But I went to the doc today and its actually healing quite well.  Not even in a cast yet,  The bigger of the two bones in the arm, near the wrist, is broke in half.  Its lined up well. And should heal good.  I hope so.  I also want to get physical in the future so I want a strong wrist.

The doc mentioned drinking milk and a vitamin sup will help it heal stronger...and moving my hand by making fist too.
