So I was going to pick my gf up from school so we could go see a movie and get chipotle. So I live in a condo with a lot of speed bumps. So I was doing about 20 and was slowing to about 10 and next thing I know I'm on my back and my bike is sliding up and over the speed bump. It was so fast like.....its hard to explain. So I landed on my back and did a flip and somehow hit my knee on something and it really hurts. I'm 17 so hopfully it will get better. So I somehow got my bike back up....I don't know how. I weigh 110lbs. And I'm 5"10 and last time it fell down I couldn't get it back up. So I now need some new fairings and to unbend my shifter...I can still ride it. Oh yeah....my passenger helmet was a frame slider. It was a $60 helmet and it saved the back!! I will get pics up asap.

Btw, I've done msf and been riding for about 9 months and have 5100 miles on my 2007 gs500f. I've ridden in rain many times but this was just a hiccup.

If anyone has any suggestions what or where to fix these things tell me. Or should I contact my inusrance company....I have collision/comprehensive and everything $250 deduc.

Thanks

You're throwing that helmet away, aren't you?

As for the shifter lever, Ron Ayers has good prices, not sure about shipping.  Bike Bandit almost as good.

I bought bike bandit and they sent me a code to get a 10$ gift certicate from their site so i'd go with them if the prices are reasonable.

No I'm not throwing the helmet away. Its just not going to be used. Its going to be a reminder that things can happen very quickly, and worse things could happen.

As for bikebandit I will check the prices. I don't know why plastic is so expensive!!

Paulcet

Oh, the plastic!?  Go naked!

I remember the first time i dropped my bike and had to pick it up by myself that sucks... Was actually 3rd time i dropped it but other two times there were other people around to help
Just outta curiosity (if i may ask) how much you pay a month in insurance?

If the plastics are just rashed and not cracked, you may be able to get them painted,  and the shift lever is easy to replace.

I dropped my bike at a stand still the first day I got it...lol.Brand spankin new. I paid $987 for a year with Progressive. I was 16 years old when I got it.

The fairings are not cracked...at all... Just scratches. The shifter is a little bent and so is the heel guard.

I may see how much it would be to paint them, and then buy the stickers.

That sucks man, I'm glad you are okay. Nice save with that helmet, probably cheaper than whatever would have gotten rashed otherwise.

Make sure you know the proper way to pick up your bike and its super easy. Even a 100 pound girl can pick up a Goldwing so a GS should never be a problem.

Fix the lever and then wait about a month to fix the plastics. If that's the only thing else that is bad you may hardly notice it by then. I was freaking out about my fairing after my crash but now that everything else is fixed I hardly notice them, so I'm just waiting for  cheap replacement to come up on ebay.

Skeets

ew, I like the fairing look. The naked look is too (old people).

I'll probably call my insurance company and get it all replaced.

I'll have pics Sunday morning, I've been very lazy lately.

I'm just sayin' the non fairing look....looks like an old mans bike. IMHO

Bluesmudge

First time I've hear that. I really like the naked look, I like fairings a little more but naked looks badass.

I actually like the way mine looks w/o the fairing now. I bought it b/c I liked the fairing so much.. but then realized it was just a sheep in wolves clothing.. So I took it back to it's roots and went naked.. But to each their own..  :bstar:

you insurance company will likely total the bike. i didn't see what year it was listed, sorry if i didn't read proper.

keep the plastics if you like, it's a preference. don't go replacing them till winter (or rainy season) is over though ;)

are those buell signals, and did you paint your wheels black ?

I think it looks cool w/o fairing...

Glad to hear you're ok. I agree that you might want to just replace the peg and shifter and not let the insurance company know about it. Not only are they likely to total the bike, they'll raise your rates too. The last thing you need is to upgrade to their "high risk" category. When I was 18 I got a moving violation and my insurance went up $1000 a year for 3 years...

Yes they are buell signals. The wheels were black stock (2007 model)

Hmmm speed bumps.  I HATE SPEED BUMPS

Glad you are ok  :thumb:

From how fast you went down sounds like to me you hit a greasy patch on or before the speed bump.

Few tips....You probably know them already but does not hurt to mention.

1.  Avoid painted Lines/cats eyes in the wet at all cost.
2.  Look for oil stains or petrol/diesel stains on the wet roads, speed bumps. Oil/Petrol = accident waiting to happen.
3.  Go over speed bumps the same place as the car tires would.  Do NOT go over the middle of a speed bump where oil/petrol can accumulate.
4.  If possible go around speed bumps
