like wise on the needing any help. I live right by cary town right at the end of the fan so im just a hop away from anywhere really.

i've pieced this GS together so many times that i've gotten pretty good with it haha. also pleasants hardware sells a lot of metric SS socket head bolts that would be great for replacing the zinc coated ones that the bike has especially since most of them that are used in the aluminum have galvanic action set on them.

I just have to get mine tuned right. anyone one of you guys great with carbs? because im not lol

I've got pretty good from trial and area so atleast I can point you in the right direction.  We'll catch up as soon as the weather breaks.

huah.  Did you re-jet after mods?  I went to 20's for pilot jets to resolve the running lean issue.  I've got lots of practical experience mangling carbs.  My last bike was a very unhappy late 70s Honda that I pounded into submission.  I have more tools than sense, and assuming he keeps the house I've camped my bike in a friend's garage in Ashland.  I have a set of gauges for tuning the carbs - putting the vacuum hoses on the outlets on the carb suuuuucks, and I've rigged a fuel setup that works passably.  I've spent the last 5 weeks or so procrastinating and working on my valve shims.

I was going to ask if you guys are riding right now. Today would be great, but those 22 degree days I would see someone out on a bike and consider shooting them to put them out of my misery.

I took the fairing off today and put it all back to naked, then im gonna hit the blacktop .
the carbs were jetted when the vance and hines exhaust was put on. I bought it like that. then I modefied to exhaust with a c17 nickel/copper alloy can that I machined out but it still is the same design as the V&H.

it is idling way to high right now. I am about to go out and try and tune them up in a bit.

looks like its not a carb  issue but more of a cable or linkage issue. so I am going to order a new choke cable and try to figure out why the throttle is sticking on the carb side because it does not seem to be sticking from the bar side.

This may seem dumb, but if the locknuts are too tight in the wrong place, it will pull the throttle and your idle will be high.  I MIGHT know that from experience...  I might also know that the same issue in a different part of the cable will cause the throttle to stick.  Maybe...

This may be a stupid question but I am in no way experienced.  lol.

In the pics it appears as though your handlebars are curved out a bit.  Seeing how I have an '89 with the same type I was curious...if you aquired them like that or did it your self to improve the feel or what...   :dunno_white:

"Oh Joe, you never had these feelings before, have you?"
"Almost. I had a kitten once."

ok 425$ later and the bike will be almost good again.

-petcock wasnt flowing properly and the reserve doesnt work at all, which is never did.
-carbs are being cleaned and tuned
-anything service related is being done to the bike. like oil change, filter clean, all bolts tightened , fluids leveled, cables tightened and so on
-choke cable is being replaced
-all new fuel lines
-and the bikes cleaned a long with everything on the engine checked out.

after that all they will get it running prime for me they said and then I can pay for it and ride :).

now I need to buy new tires, new chain and new sprockets but I dont want to pay for labor on those I will joinst order the parts there and swap it myself.

atleast I am happy it was nothing major!

Where do you have the work being done?  Velocity is just a cool group of guys, the guy at proclass is pretty cool, and I'm told Ken's is ok.

Fuel lines are in my near future.  As are stainless stell brake lines, an F-E conversion, and chain tightening.  Aligning the rear wheel scares me...

well velocity is cool but very slow on turn around from experience. never been to proclass and Kens is always super helpful and they are quick plus they own a gs500 as one of their track bikes! so they love the gs!

I know  how to do anything on the bike even rebuild the engine , I have done many cars in my time but I just dont want to and dont have the time right now lol. going to texas for 2 months then hampton with the af for another month so I wanted it ready for me to take down there and ride in my truck :)
