So I said over the winter i would do a solo tail for my 91 GS. Well here is the progress thus far. Not finished but roughed in and ready for some more bondo. Also looking to make a mold of this and have a few produced. a friend of mine does carbon fiber prosthetic limb work and I will see if he can lay some up if his vaccum bags will work!

And while I was at it i did a small fenderectomy mod to the front. I do not suggest doing this unless you have access to another fender, in case you mess up and still want one. Also the mesh is quite difficuly to glue in, im using automotive abs plastic epoxy. The right stuff, but its still hell.

 Cool front fender  :thumb:

I hope none of those screens come loose and jam up your front wheel  :o

Im sure youl be fine, but be sure they are secure!

The Tail looks KILLER! I love it... However, the tail lights kinda look butt  ;) You can come up w/ a much cooler design there

Overall AWESOME!

What did you use to get the rough shape of the tail, did u make something and then lay fiberglass over that?

+1 about the taillights, maybe it just needs a little tweaking ? love the work on the tail. is that a can off a 1000cc bike ?

i wonder if an older looking fairing would look cool with that tail ?

nice work !

I like all of it! Looks awesome! I love the look of solo tails... I just wish that they didn't ruin the possibility of non solo riding ;)

I absolutely LOVE how everything in your shed/barn/garage is covered in bondo dust! Lol... that, and Is that a spare GS motor I spy there in the corner???

Looking cool, I can't wait to see the finished piece. I really want to see that front fender on the bike.

danny500- yes that is a spare motor and most of the fiberglass and bondo has been swept up, you should have seen it in progress.

ohgood- the yosh can was said to be a slip-on off of a 2005/6 R6

bluesmuge- i laid a mat board( stiff paper 1/16" thick) sub structure over my chopped up fairings, fiberglassed over that and back filled with long strand kitty-hair fiberglass. alot of trial and error.

If anyone else has any suggestions about taillight variations, let me know! I can make it work.

Continuing on the progress of the tail, i've made a few changes. The screws that held it in place to the seat bracket part of the frame have now been adapted to a bracket i constructed, that mounts to the seat latch. Once screwed in place,I sanded the screw heads flush and I glassed over the screws and bracket on front and back. It clicks into place just like the original. I also took the advice of others and purchased a set of under-tail lights. The Ducati lights were way to pricey, even for used. I scored these for $20 shipped and they are way brighter than my stock taillight. I made a bracket and wired them to the original harness. I have an integrator for the turns coming from flea-bay. Its turning out good so far, but a lot to go. I got 5 weeks till bike week in Myrtle Beach.
