i bought an american bike and i live in canada, i was wondering if there is anyway you can open up the speedo and take out the plate or paper piece or whatever it is that has the mph listed on it and swap it with one that i made that has kmph? if so is it easy?

I don't think this is an easy swap at all. Time consuming, tedious, and expensive if you mess something up.

Why not just search e-bay canada for a KPH speedo, or, better yet, keep the speedo you have and just remember that 55mph is 88kph and feel it out from there...

just swap to a KPH speedo pull the old one out new one in, that easy.  or you could place stickers on the glass of the speedo

Yeah, you can do that, no problem. Search the forum for gauge faces and you'll find that people have posted templates for doing it along with guides. It isn't super crazy easy, but it doesn't look that bad from the pictures I've seen... You might have to bust out the photoshop skills to actually get kph, but I think I recall seeing a program mentioned that was specifically created for making gauge face templates.
