Unfortunatly the parts that I require to solve my engine knocking can only be sourced from the US, I was hoping that there would be someone on here able to get these washers, and stick them up on ebay so I can get them shipped over here(UK) cheaply. The parts website want about 70USD for them to be shipped over here. I'm hoping that by putting them in an envelope(providing you can send metal washers through the post, will work out a lot cheaper.

EDIT: I have just found out from another member on the forum that the shims will not fit onto my camshaft, I would need to replace the camshafts (£300 ouch!!). Looks like I am just going to have to put up with the noise.

Thanks anyway Buddah!

I am sorry - I'll have to call BS on that one.
Yes they are different cam shafts from 89-02 to 04+, but they have the tach drive on 89-02 and not on 04+.
I doubt the end bearing diameter has been changed.
Cool.

Buddah, would you be able to find out how much these washers would cost for you to send over to me?

Its $9.04 for the parts(ronayers.com), $9.00 for the shipping to my house and assuming that it can be slipped into an envelope and mailed via USPS to the UK that  is $3.54

09164-22012      WASHER WAVE
2         $3.20

09181-22132    SHIM(0.7)

4         $5.84

It would take probably a week to get from ronayers to me, and probably 1.5 weeks to get to the UK

Your right....the tach drive has been lost and the diameter hasnt increased BUT the distance between the shoulder on the cam and the bearings caps has. On the old cams there isnt enough space to fit spacers and wave washers between the shoulder and bearing caps. On the latter ones this distance has been increased to allow room for the spacers and wave washers to fit. Thats why Suzuki say you need the new cam as part of the mod.

Twiglet? You can buy the spacers and wave washers here in the UK on the same part numbers, they were fitted to the K6 and on models.........but they wont fit cams from K5 and earlier models and unfortunately thats the root of the problem.

Up to you mate  :dunno_white:

I have a 2006 Model GS500F, does that mean that the rattle is caused by the existing 'spring' washers being crushed with use is causing the free-play? Also Would I need just 2 wave washers and for normal (to fit onto one side of each camshaft) or would I need four of them to fit to each end of both camshafts?

First thing....are you 100% certain you have a K6 and not a K5?

This is the parts drawing for the cylinder head of a K6. The shims and wave washers are shown in the correct location and identified as 8B&8A and 2B&2A. Its possible that one of them has failed allowing the cam to float, but its equally possible that the noise is being caused by something else totaly unrelated to the shims/washers. Has it been confirmed that the cam is floating or is it all still a best guess?

Todays recommended UK dealer (non-trade prices) ex VAT.

09181-22132 Spacer £1.53 each. 4 needed.
09164-22012 Wave washer £1.38 each. 2  needed.

It would appear that whoever told you these parts are unavailable in the UK is either telling you porkys, doesnt know what they are talking about...or trying to shaft you. Either way it does not inspire confidence. Maybe a second opinion from another mechanic would be a good idea.

Just checked my registration documents and the bike is definatly a 2006/K6 model. I think I'm definatly going to get a second opinion from a Suzuki dealer on this one.

Aaaah yes a classic case, where they put in a lot of effort to fix what was not really broken, and they have made it into a real problem now.
Classic. These companies dying, and is it any surprise.
