So I installed some LEDs on my 04 and at first they just blinked rapidly then they stopped workng all together. Is there anything I can do to fix themso they blink again.

Any help? Please pm me

You need a resistor or a different relay.

LucPro

Well I know that. Does anyone know which one?

Yeah, search for it, there are a bunch of answers to that question out there.

LucPro

It is imposible for me to use the search feature. To much nonusefull info comes up.

It isn't that bad, check this out:

Here is the PDF on installing the balancer
http://www.kuryakyn.com/documents/installation/4807-21HD-0404.pdf

You can buy it online here:
http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/catID/16/scID/114/IMID/718

Here is the diode:
http://www.kuryakyn.com/documents/installation/4709-21MC-0703.pdf
And how to install:
http://www.kuryakyn.com/documents/installation/4709-21MC-0703.pdf

Hope this will help you out. That and a resistor from discount auto parts is all I needed. I didn't have the lights go out just the blinker indicator light

The rest of that post is pretty good too. Seems like a good place to start...

LucPro

Ok, let me make it more clear.  My blinkers were working fine even the indicator light.  Then i went to ride it today and the blinkers were not working.

LucPro

So after reading all the information provided, I am more confused.  Great... Basically I'm screwed...

Do your LED turn signals have current limiting resistors? If they didn't, it isn't that hard to burn up an LED by running it without a resistor in series... If they were working and now aren't, you need to isolate the source of the problem. Did your turn signals themselves go out or did your flasher relay die? Take the turn signals and apply some voltage to them and see if they come on. Test the dash light too. If those all work, get a new relay and try that.

LucPro

So I know my relay went out, I only installed the front LED, the rear are still incandescent, so i finally found the info I needed after sifting and sifting...

I will have to install some resistors and what not... maybe ill take some pics and post so everyone can know ...

the whole searching thing doesn't work very well...

I've posted it here several times on the things you need. actually it was reposted in this thread!

First get this load balancer and here is their instructions
http://www.kuryakyn.com/documents/installation/4993-21MC-0308.pdf

Then hook up this diode to the turn signal indicator
http://www.kuryakyn.com/documents/installation/4709-21MC-0703.pdf

Then get a relay from discount auto parts.

I did the load balancer to the back lights so it could sit under the seat.

Hope this helps!

The link you were trying to send me was for unnecessary equipment... that's why I was ignoring it...

I figured it out...

I put one resistor on each side...  What I discovered, is that the dude who hooked up the left side marker, (I was working on the right) bound them together and a tiny bit of exposed wires were touching at the splice.  I could tell cuz I was testing it and i grabbed the wire which was very hot.  So i went to auto-zone got a universal, electric blinker relay, which was round instead of square... replaced that and it all works now...

One thing I realized in this whole ordeal is that I learned a lot about electronic components... aka now I can make custom led anything...

hello, i found this post because im having nearly the same problem (great info on this forum btw).  i bought 'an 05 gs500f two weeks ago, and the turn signals were upgraded to LEDs, but apparently they no longer come on (let alone flash).

after doing some research it sounds like it has do with the low resistance in LEDs.  i have yet to put voltage across the new lights to make sure they're working, but i have a feeling it's just the turn signal flasher.  i also read that if you convert from bulbs to LED, you need to add load equalizers with the stock relay, which this guy did not do.

my plan is to wire in a universal electronic flasher such as this:
http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=5000&L2=7&L3=&L4=&item=MRX_FRU1_G

so... i popped open the seat and took a look with a flashslight, but im having trouble finding the stock relay.
i found this diagram online, and i know im looking for #16:

could anyone here please explain where the turn signal relay is physically located on the bike?  a picture would be very helpful. thanks!  :)

LucPro

Sorry no pic but it should be on the right side of the bike under the rear plastic near the front. It kind of pops off and it is under there. Should be under the white plastic.

ok! i took another look and i think i see it...  thanks!  :thumb:

also, it looks like there are a bunch of wires at the bottom of the part you're referring to. which 2 of these wires are for the relay?

update: i just put a 9V battery across the LEDs and they do come on so i know they're not the problem.

jeremy_nash

the flasher relay only has 2 wires on it.  as long as you still have 2 normal bulbs, you can just install a flasher.  this is a link to the one I used  http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Flashers-Tridon-(Novida-Tech--Inc)_5081289-P_121_R%7CGRPLAMPAMS_612709036___

hey jeremy, thanks for the response. yeah i called my local autozone about the tridon EL12 yesterday and they had one in stock for $9.  i was thinking about getting it, but after reading more online, i found they wouldnt work with an all LED setup (that relay is "load dependent" and all 4 of my blinkers are LED).  the original owner who sold me the bike, however, did give me all of the original stock turn signals, but i'd rather not go with a half bulb/half LED setup...

do i have to remove the rear plastic on the right side to get to the relay?  it looks like theres a few bolts holding the panel on, and it would be nice if i didn't have to pull it off.

UPDATE: well, i went ahead and bought the EL12 relay from autozone and wired it in.  no success when all 4 signals were LEDs, but once i replaced the rear lights with the stock bulbs (and left the front as flush mount LEDs), the blinkers all came on, flashed at the correct rate, and worked great!  i decided to just replace all of the signals with the stock lights - might not look as snazzy, but they sure are a lot brighter.  thanks everyone!!

jeremy_nash

yeah, as I said in my post, you would need to still have 2 incandescant bulbs, or a load balancer I think it is called.  but with the balancer, you will still need the new flasher, so at least ur not throwing money away with it
