Going to take a minute to pat my own back.  Just finished spending an afternoon working on the GS.  What a way to spend the afternoon!

Installed a new Muzzy can (thanks Buddha).  Due to it being a straight can, it sticks out pretty far to the side right now.  I'll have to take it into a shop and see if I can't get something machined to sweep back along the side.

I then rejet the carbs and shimmed the needles.  This took some effort, as I had to make sure I understood where everything was going and coming from.  Took the carb out and shimmed the needles.  This went well without incident.  Next, opened up the float casing to replace the jets.  This resulted in some aggravation.  Of the 8 screws for both carbs, 5 of them stripped.  Went out and bought a screw remover, it was useless.  Ended up using a combination of a drill and a router to drill/cut the screws out.  A drill bit and 1.5 hours later, the jets are replaced.

Not to reassemble.  I got it all back in without any extra parts ( :woohoo:).  Adjusted the airflow screws and idle screw.  And viola!  She was purring...well more of a growl!  Took her for a quick jaunt up and down the street (not insured yet).  Wow, could believe the difference!  Now I can wait for the riding season to start!  Any day now!!!

I think I'm addicted to DYI maintenance.  Thanks to members of this forum, the contributors of the wiki and the Haynes manual, I've experienced an afternoon of great enjoyment and pride.

As soon as I get the pipe the way I want it, I'll post pics.

Vroom!

Maaa ... who are you ... I only sold 1 muzzy so I think I know, we emailed a lot for a few months about the whole thing, but your name is ... chokstick ... really ...

Anyway, glad to know sheite gets screwed up for others too ... and that it worked out. Again suzuki did the classic job of fixing what wasn't broken and ignoring what was. Or they mad a bad problem worse, by making it smaller and making many more of it. Old style carbs had 5mm screws and only 4, new type has 8 and 4mm ... and ofcourse it comes lean as hillary duff, and in general as shitty and rusty as ever. Yea, the 5mm to 4mm that we will put in thought and effort into. Worthless f^cks.

Cool.

I remember, just didn't know your handle. That actually is crazy in my case. I sell and buy on 3-4 sites and never can correlate.
BTW the other Muzzy equipped GS (near about identical to the one I sold you) was my local friend rabid viper06.
Its good ... just glad it came back when you weren't there. Some honest people over in the post offices at both locations huh.
Cool.

I hate those piece of shaZam! screws...  I found taking a socket w 4" extender on it with a Philips drive then place it like you are going to drive it then hit with a hammer to break the screws, sometimes it takes a couple smacks but then the socket with extender makes it so you can get some good leverage so you don't strip the screws...

And yes... "wrenchin" makes you feel good
