I got f%$king layed off yesterday me and two other people one who deserved it and me and the other guy have been their for a long time and do good work. But we still got the boot. I was looking on mosnter.com and it show the nash guard is hiring a light wheel mechanic. With that job how does it work do I get sent to boot camp and do I risk deployment and do I get to live at home?

You would be enlisting in the guard to fill that position.  You would attend BCT and AIT, probably a total 4-5 months.  Upon completion of training you would be 100% deployable with your unit.  But, yeah, you could live at home.

Hey you might wanna try Border Patrol. Since, you live in Cali after training you could be stationed there since it is a hot spot. Here in Florida they did a big thing about it on the news. It's a thought. Not gonna get laid off they pay for everything and it is a government job!

After doing some research long hair is fine ill just have to put it up. My beard/goatee thing will need to be trimmed to a soul patch or landing strip.

yeah i was going to say i know some firemen that have longer hair, they have to wear a net to keep their hair under their helmet.  The facial hair though is right on, no one i know is able to have more than a trimmed mustache/goatee.

Facial hair restrictions aren't a flammable concern...they're a "keeps your mask from making a good seal around your face" concern.

As for the Border Patrol recommendation...be sure that you don't mind your own government ****ing you over and putting you in prison for doing your job and defending yourself before you sign up for that.
Happiness is a perfectly-revving engine, a cool, windless night, a stretch of empty highway......and the knowledge that the highway patrol is understaffed in your region.

don't feel bad, your not the only one to get laid off. and with many companies still shedding jobs at a record pace, things aren't looking up for a new job either for myself at the moment.

BTW why do house prices have to be up ... why even bother rescuing them.

Uhm, I don't think you will. Fire academy is pretty tough. Are you in descent shape? My best friend she went through it and she said it was very tough esp. acclimating to heat. Can you run up ten flight's of stairs in full fire gear with a full set of hose! She said the worse thing was having to do eight hours in the suit working accidents and fires without water.

I was an EMT could not get my fire standards due to my heart. Which brings me to my next point. You will probably have to get at least your EMT-B preferably EMT-P. Which that in itself will take two years to get paramedic. This is because most states have now incorporated EMS with Fire Services. I think that that was bull krap because now Fire Rescue is so overwhelmed with medical in this area that fires and such don't always take top priority. But, it saved the beuracrats money and tripled the work of the boys! Most Fire-Fighters detested having to become EMTs as well because that is not what they wanted to be. I was the same way I did not want to be a Fire-Fighter didn't want to get nowhere near a fire. This is partially why I gave up the profession because they only job I could get as an EMT was transport with Rural Metro which paid $8.75 an hour which is why I joined the Auxillary in Polk County. I had to drive an hour to volunteer to keep my license up!

Just a few examples. But, can be a very rewarding experience!

Aye usually fire units are also known as first responders. aka you have a wreck, or other type of call. usually youll see a fire apparatus of some sort before the wambulance
