I passed my test yesterday and went out for a drive last night on my gs and after a half hr i ended up on an empty stretch of dual carraigeway, so i thought why not test her out, my word i was shocked at how easy she got up to 100mph and i stopped there as it was a little too windy for that kind of horse play lol, (that and i bottled out lol) but what is the maximum you have had out of your GS?

Fastest I've had it was 95.  That was late at night, on a toll bridge that never gets used (so no traffic whatsoever).  There's no way I'd ride it like that with cages around.  At 95 I crested the top hump of the bridge and got hit with a strong crosswind...that was enough to immediately make me take it back down to 60.
Now, that was when it was still a stock F model.  Now that it's completely naked, the fastest I've had it was between 75 and 80.

*edit*
Wait...Glasgow?  Are you talking mph or kph?  (I'm assuming Euro GSs would have kph speedometers.)
Happiness is a perfectly-revving engine, a cool, windless night, a stretch of empty highway......and the knowledge that the highway patrol is understaffed in your region.

i see 140 KMH but beacuse of my rear tire and rear shock dont give me a chance i feel like that i will take off  :cookoo: :)

My bone-stock 1991 E model topped out at 180kph indicated, into a slight crosswind.  Since it reads about 5-7% high, figure that's around 165-170kph true which is about 102-105mph. That agrees with all the other experience we've seen in magazine tests and in the forum.  F models will be a bit faster on the top end due to aerodynamics. Maybe another 5-10mph?

I've only done that on two occasions, on deserted roads that lead to no-where. I don't feel the need to do that again.

I've had my girl around around the 115-120mph mark with a tail wind.
Faster, Faster, Faster until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.

crack pipe sounds like track bike for a reason...

lamoun

I have seen little over 190Km/h (118 miles/h)

Then there are times it can't go over 160 (100m/h)..  :dunno_white:

Mine's naked, and with a slight headwind on flat road I got her to 111mph.  130 isn't possible with a stock engine unless you're going downhill.

What does "bottled out" mean?
V&H pipes, K&N drop-in, seat by KnoPlace.com, 17/39 sprockets, matching grips, fenderectomy, short signals, new mirrors - 10 scariest words: "I'm here from the government and I'm here to help!"

Bluesmudge

I've seen somewhere between 110 and 115 indicated (I'm not looking to carefully at that point), but I probably had a slight downhill grade. The bike usually doesn't want to go over 105 indicated.
This is with a 2006 F model, so apparently the aerodynamics don't help much.

As long as I can hit a true 100mph every once and awhile I'm happy. I should take my GPS out some time and see what the top speed actually is.

utgunslinger13

I think he was using it to say he ran out of road?

My old GS I had up to 108 before I let off.  My new GS doesn't run but I think I got it up to about 5 pushing it!

so far 90mph on a naked '93 across a long bridge.......that was pretty intense for me lol

pjm204

When I had my '01 I hit 107mph shown on my GPS. Its still the top speed recorded on it because I haven't really used it on my new bike though I have hit 120 or so on several occasions, in safe areas with no traffic and good road.

I've only been up to about 90 indicated. I commute in Los Angeles though, most of the time there is so much traffic I'm just lane splitting at 35 the whole way... It is still faster than driving though.

colorider

I live in Colorado so the altitude reduces max speed (and power for that matter).  The best I've done is about 95 mph.  I just put on a 15 tooth front sprocket so I'll have to give it another try.  Only with no cars around!

At higher speeds, tire pressure becomes way more noticeable. At freeway speed, i can easily tell when the tires are a few pounds low just by the way it feels. If you make sure your tire pressure is right, it will feel a whole lot better.

no it was the road i was on.  horrible michigan roads
