HP ink cartridges expire!

I found out my Hewlett Packard ink has expired.

That's right! The ink cartridge has a date chip in it that stops it from working after its 'use by date' passes. WTF!!! I only bought the ink a few months ago, and only put it in the printer a few weeks ago. Its still 90% full.

Now I found out my backup printer cartridge has also expired without ever being used.


Well Hewlett Packard  can get stuffed! There is no way in the world I will ever buy another hewlett packard print cartridge, printer, scanner or infact anything of theirs ever again.

A check on the net and I see that some businesses are taking them to court over the issue. Some companies have hundreds of dollars tied up in ink cartridges that will no longer work.

I hope the world boycotts them for such a disgraceful act of entrapment.

yeah i agree that HP sucks and ink shouldn't have a date coded on the chip in the cartridge to disable them after a certain date.  Then you have to buy more, but don't buy to many ...

Just FYI if you set your system clock back in time it will work again. Its a retarded fix but it works, i have done that here when a user had the same problem cause they got a box of ink cartridges a while ago.

and here i've bragged about my HP desktop. but then again, i havent used the printer in months because we ran out of ink, couldn't buy a new cartridge then i had an issue and did a destructive recovery and now can't find the install disk for the printer......anyways....

Man HP does a really good job of making everything a pain in the ass.  Take it out and shoot it, printers make great range targets but can be a pain to clean up

Couldn't you just download the driver?

well, i'm in the process of downloading the softwar/driver now. will only take half an hour.     but, saves me ten bucks by not having them ship me a cd.

you should just be able to google the printer brand and model number and pull up the driver that way, or yes you can go through the hp web site

when i posted the question, i knew the answer where to find it. i was merely being a postwhore.    i'm currently downloading it from hp website.  anyways. bout jobs, well, around here, there aren't any really. so, i'm in school now. going for my associates in network engineering. computers seem to be a stable field. and they aren't going anywhere i don't think.  studying DOS right now in my microcomputers class. i finally feel like i'm accomplishing something positive.

The computer field isn't what it once was it is reaching a market saturation level, I dunno why microcomp courses even screw with DOS anymore, other than it provides a rough basic foundation fro windows scripting. You need to really get a grasp on linux OS as lots of network hardware uses a linux kernel anymore. Your associates will get you in the door nowdays but if you want to get anywhere plan on continuing your education after you're working and get a BS.

Only reason I have the job I have without a degree is because I got into the field of mid range IBM systems when people thought they would be obsolete. When you get into programming language discussions you're gonna have people tell you RPG and COBOL are dead languages. In the PC server world they are corrrect but in mid-range mini computers and certain mainframes applications are still developed using those languages because its faster more effecient runs better in the native environment of those sytems and crushes the performance ceiling of PC server farms.

EDS aka travelocity has an old IBM mainframe... 15 years old, in attemting to phase it out they have a server farm of over 400 x86 processor based servers that still cant crunch numbers and handle database transactions as quickly or reliablly as that one giant piece of equipment.

i'm guessing that's the reason for the DOS. after which we will be going into html. before i'm finished with my degree i know i will touch on linux and novell as well i believe. probably not to in-depth but, like you stated, i'm getting my associates to get my foot in the door. it is stated that upon completion of my degree i should be ready to take my MCSE/MCSA tests as well as possibly cisco certification tests.

Certs are where its at.. forget the degree... MCSE, CNE, A+ and a couple other Cisco certs and you can about pick what company you want to work for... When I was workingin the computer field on my own I had more work than I wanted all because other techs had a BS in Comp Sci that translates to just plain "BS" I got jobs over those guys all the time... Get certs in the computer field a degree is a worthless piece of paper. What they teach you in4 years is obsolete 2 years later

I wrote (whoever) at HP a short note describing I would never buy their products again because of this crappy business plan of stuffing the paying customers. I also tossed out the last HP ALL-in-ONE printer after repeated problems with carts.

Right now we're printer-less, and I like it. Need something printed ? Just make a pdf and send it to a friend. No big deal. It's a reason to snag a free beer and not have printer issues ever again

Certs are a dime a dozen now, you can have a MCSE, CCNA, A+/N+ and you'll get a low level tech position in the current market. If you don't have the degree your a peon even with all the certs in the world.

i think getting my degree and then taking my certification tests will make me more marketable. i have seen that some companies will use your time in college as "experience" time. A friend told me that the degree tells the company i've got long-term dedication and the certifications show them i really learned something in college and i know the job.

Good idea.  Having both will give you an edge over those who just have certs or just have degree.  But beware, even with both, finding a good job is now harder.

My wife works for a high tech consulting firm that provides people to large companies.  She told me that Northrop Gruman asked her company to replace all the techs that have college degrees with ones that only have high school diplomas in order to reduce costs.  Many of the techs just accepted the lower pay rate so that they didn't have to compete in the job market.

I have to 100% disagree w/ you there. I have a close group of about 6 friends none of them have a degree and all hold HIGH level positions w/ Northrop. others at Lockheed w/ only certs. and even more at NDIC... None are Peons by far... When I worked at a DOD contractor I had more Cert people above me than MS COMP SCI people.

Look at the IT security industry.. There are more highschool drop out hackers working in $100K+ positions than people with a BS or MS

  + I have been offered many a high level job based on certifications alone. Perhaps some of you live in low tech areas ?? here you can get a great IT job with either Certs or an Associates and Certs. My friend has a BS in Comp Sci and works at the DMV (not in IT)  Another w/ 2 Assoc in Programing and Networking... He works for an Ice rink (not in IT). The others I know w/ certs all have IT jobs, well paid and in advanced positions.

Now... sure the degree and certs is a great option and prob the best plan but Certs can be had fast! in a year you can get a whole binder full of certs... certs mean you know your S**T hands down. A Comp Sci degree, yea.. you know DOS, Public Speaking, Health class, some kinda programing and biology.

Only reason I left IT is the hours got too demanding. Yea $65K a year is great untill you are working 50-60HRs to get it....

So, yea degree + Certs is great but you can get Certs, get a quick job and not only get paid to go to school but also have 4 years experience when you get out
