I Passed!!! :-)

Well, my MSF course skills test was today, and except for that freakin' U-turn box  :x  I passed with flying colors!  

So I am now (finally) a licensed rider!

My skill eval was today too! I lost some points on the U-turn box (which i normaly ace) because i put foot down once and went out once. Ruled the swirve! I need more practice on the breaking but I passed it (i was 6ft longer than acceptable for my speed). Perfect cornering too!

Im not liscenesed yet =( I have to wait till they mail out the stupid sheets to MANYS and i get the copy for the DMV (3-5 weeks). Oh well, I guess I just go grab my plates and get in a few rides before it snows!

Great to hear about everybody passing.  I made it through the course with only deductions for me going to slowly!   Egad I was consistently the fastest in our group but I suppose I was playing it safe on the test when it began to rain and sleet.

I can't wait for that perfect GS500 to find it's way into my life.  It's also going to be a long winter.  If it wasn't for x-country skiing I'd go nuts waiting for spring.

Congradulations to all! Even after you pass, practice, practice, practice. After 17 years I still practice full-lock circles, emergency stops and swerves as taught in MSF in the parking lot at work.

However over here in blighty you are automatically failed for everything mentioned: - i.e. If you put your foot down on the U-turn or Go too fast or Go too slow or Do not adequately carry out a safe & prompt Emergency Stop.

No, I don't think our reflexes are better, our Government like to make more money from test fees! Congrats to all the new riders and someone mentioned practice, too true.  I've only ever done two emergency stops for real in all my bike time and they were seperated by all of ten minutes. Practice, Practice, Practice.

New riders, when I passed a colleague gave me two pieces of advice, first if you overtake at a speed camera, overtake on the inside then it looks like the other guy is speeding, advice to be taken with a large measure of salt and always always remember we may be the quickest, we undoubtedly have most fun but we are far away the most vulnerable in any traffic situation so the very least you can do is make it easy for them to see you.

Too true about taking more money off us. Doesn't really mean we are any better riders or have better reflexes. We are taught to ride to pass the test, our real learning comes when we are out on the road. Practising with friends on u truns and emergency stops is the best way, as you have fun but still get the benefit.

I always say that the best way to learn is by hours and miles in the saddle. The time when someone says they aren't learning anymore is the time they have an accident an die!!!!

Speed cameras and being on the left - true but you can still be caught albeit harder. Not for me though as most drivers in my area are wankers when it comes to bikers.
