So I've been getting some sort of red dust on the engine case on the left side of the bike. It is apparently coming out from where the crank is and collects on the bike.

Any ideas? I'm thinking it's clutch dust, but I don't know.

Not only a wet clutch, said clutch is on the right side of the bike.

Sounds like rust coming from somewhere.

I think that might be right.
The dust is mostly settling on the chain and on the cover where the front sprocket is.

Does it look like this???

The red dust you see is down to microscopic particles of metal wearing off moving parts and immediately rusting when it come into contact with moisture in the atmosphere. Most likely your chain needs some lube, or the splines in the sprocket and on the output shaft need cleaning and coating in grease.

witek

It looks exactly like that.
I tried getting a picture just now with minimal success.

I'll give it a good cleaning when I have time.

Thanks for the info guys.

That red dust is probably rust from either the chain or front sprocket or both.  Might be time to lube it?

if it's gotten that nasty and dry, it's likely toast ! check for tight, kinky links after you clean and lube the chain. i'll bet you stick a fork in it and order a new one :)

I hope it's all good. Mine's nowhere near as bad as in the photo though.
