engine leak

Well, it looks like my engines leaking... it looks pretty bad too... its only got 6900k which is unfortunate... I have a feeling its the gasket.... I dont really have the ability to rebuild an engine, is there an alternative... I've attached a couple of pics below...

looks like it is coming from under the sprocket cover, if your warranty is expired,  I would take the sprocket cover off, and give it a good inspection


how new is the bike? any chance it could be still under warranty?

To answer your first question: its a an '04 and no warrenty

I did lube/clean the chain before a long ride... could this be the problem? can't be excess lube can it? I usually don't wipe it off...

it could be excess lube, easy way to tell would be to take off the front sprocket cover.  check around the output shaft seal, and clean everything up with paper towels, if it were just from the chain lube, the problem would be gone.  good luck.  and you have to take the bolt all the way out of the shifter to remove it, and sometimes use a flat-blade screwdriver to pry the slot apart gently to remove it

Don't even do that. Just wipe it off the case and ride it some more.

Oil leak - pool of oil under bike. That does not look like an oil leak.

I'll bet when you pull the cover off the front sprocket, you see a whole lot of built-up gunk. When all that is cleaned off, I think your leak will go away. I once had so much built up gunk in that area on one of my bikes that it interfered with the shifter; the lever wouldn't return to the center after shifting. I ended up removing built-up gunk about the size of my fist.

No, you remove part 19, leave 26 alone.  It's 5 bolts made up of 21x2, 22, 23x2.  Look at the bottom right picture.  Lay the bolts out on the ground in the pattern that you remove them until you do it a few times and can recognize them by sight.

No worries on stuff spilling out.  Can't comment on whether or not the fairing should be removed as i don't have one.  It's cake, get to it!

hahaha ya im checking it out now, I read that I should remove the shift leaver first? is this necessary?

it kinda looks like i need to take it off, its in the way LOL.... I can probably leave that clutch cable as it, I hope..

Oops!  Ya, the shift lever needs to come off first.  The clutch cable you can just leave alone...  You'll see : )
