Hey all,

my put my bike back out a month ago and ride it to work some times .. still a bit chilli on some days.....

heres the problem...  when i first took it out I had to boost it... but since its my frist time "opening" a bike i didnt have the spark plugs connected .. heh... anyways... got that corrected... i had to replace the bars, handle ends, gas tank bracket, fairing brackets and the fairings.  (the wind knocked it over bad this winter)... anyways i had help in putting it away for the winter but when bring it back I did an oil change, bled the brakes and waxed teh chain... evverything "seems" to run good execpt i have to boost it most days.. the choke doesnt seem to work right either...... it works but not  right away like before.. i think maybe i did something when switching the bars...  this could affect its ability to start

but the bike is an 06 500F... 8000km

Everytime I start it in the morning it sounds like the baterry is dead... just clicks.. i boost it with my car and it starts no prob.... after a few mins its warmed up i can go and i can start it after having it off all day at work for 9 hours....... but the next morning............needs a boost again...........i didnt have my battery plugged in over the winter.. i thought maybe it was drained but ive run the bike from Kitchener to Toronto a lot for work and it should be charged no? And if it was the battery after 8 horus sitting it should need another boost right?

Any ideas would be appreciated. FYI before putting it away for the winter it ran and started fine... (this was before it was blown over.....

if anyone is curious the wind didnt take it.. the wind took the tent it was stored in and the tent took it over... (didnt bolt it down.) Winds arent usually this strong here.. so.....

Thanks in advance.

unrelated question... anyone know of a place to get a decent looking but functional backrest for a bike like this?

Sounds like the battery is toast. If the fluid levels are correct on the battery you probably need a new one.

Your battery is trashed, probably from laying on its side leaking out half the electrolyte when the bike got knocked over. Try a new battery. At least try removing the battery, filling the cells to the proper level, and charging it fully - then take it to a battery or auto parts store and have it load tested, which will determine if it needs to be replaced.

Auto parts store usually costs less for exactly the same battery than motorcycle shop. Just be sure the terminals and vent are all in the right location.

sorry shoulda specified......

I stored the battery in the house....... the bike was on its side for probably about 10 hours.. happened over night. found it the next morning but the battery was safely stored in doors.

Then, most likely: Either it died a natural death (old age, small batteries, it happens) or whatever it was plugged into was overzealous and cooked it. In either case a load test at an autoparts or battery store will tell you yes or no on that easily.

Less likely - something on the bike is sucking it down overnight. Park bike, disconnect the battery, connect in morning, crank - if good, that must have been it, go looking for a problem in the electrical system, if same, we return you to have the battery load tested to verify that it's bad, or just replace it as it's probably bad.

If you have an ammeter, go ahead and connect it between the bike and the battery with the key off, and check for current - there should be none.
