Hello, quick update on CharGStwingirl, she is back up and riding well.  Still has a time with solo rides though.  Both legs have healed nicely and she is also back to running again.
I am trying to replace the tank she dented with her pelvis and I used a new o-ring and washers, torqued it up evenly and it looked good, ran good and I called it good.  At 5 am we had a puddle under the bike and it looked as if the leak was between the tank and the petcock.  O-ring was not pinched.  Is there a sealant like gasketcinch I should use as well?

I use gascacinch or permatex gasket maker, but holding back a whole tank of gas, I'd not rely on it. tanks sometimes are made with a ripple in the steel right between the bolts for the petcock. That imperfection may be the culprit. I have a nice blue tank that has that issue.
Cool.

I just sanded the entire surface where the service petcock will seat and am going to dry set it. The see if it leaks

has nobody ever replaced the service petcock before? With the exception of Buddah.  I put gas in it today after dry fitting it to the tank with a new o-ring and gaskets.  I will let it set overnite and if it doesnt leak I will put it back on tomorrow.

Thanks to all

Did you change the O-ring in the petcock as well? That was done for on my 99 and kept leaking like mad. Pics: http://www.gs-500.info/index.php?title=Benzinhahn_reparieren (sorry, text not trnaslated yet but you should get what I mean).

Also: Have you checked the hoses? Especially at the top where they mount onto the petcock, pretty prone to ripping there.

Hope that helps.
