I don't know if its me or not.. but my bike frustrates me.. always something wrong... I bought it for 500quid. Pretty cheap. I got what I paid for. A 1991 gs500e. It looked reasonable. You could tell it was old.. but after a good inspection I realised what I had a bought.. a bike that has ground down discs... needed new pads... rear caliper was siezed shut, chain was a non oring and the loosest thing id ever seen.. after fixing all this I was grateful. I thought id put two new tyres on her.. then I was hoping all would be well.... I've got the front and rear discs ready to be put on this month before the MOT. I pulled up home last week to find petrol streaming down my engine. In a mad rush to get the tank off I ended up ripping off the tank rubber around the edge(now I need to try and repair this as its ripped and the tank rattles without this). I patched up the hole in the tank and was hoping this was all. Drove to work the day after(after filling the tank to the brim with fresh juice) only to pull up in the bike shed look down and see a lovely spout of petrol shooting out. In a NEW hole!! So I quickly drive home trying to drive and keep my finger on the hole to stop myself getting coated in petrol. I've now filled the hole up again and am actually scared to drive. Because I'm getting fed up of having to take the tank off with petrol flying everyone. Its not fun. It strips all the oils from your hands. and now my bike stinks of petrol. Whether that's because of the area its in with all the petrol that's leaked and evaporated or because its still slowly leaking fuel I don't know.. its always kinda smelt that way though tbh. But yeah. So nows its time for a new tank. Rant rant rant!! Oh and you can guess this is my first proper bike. I was a scooter owner first. And I had a honda superdream I got back up to scratch..  then sold because I wanted something more fun.

She has given me good times.. I can't get rid of her anyway.. she has cam float so no other bugger would buy her! Just like my gf... pain in the ass just gotta keep fixing it.. I'm hoping once I've fixed the tank problem and got the discs on she will stop making things difficult. Finger crossed ai?

sounds like 18+ year old motorcycle problems, not exactly GS specific problems.... maybe get a newer one next time?  :icon_razz:

FWIW my '02 just runs and runs and runs and runs.... I can't complain at all!

i feel your pain, my bike i bought for $500, and since then have had one little problem after another to contend with. in terms of fuel leakage, i, too, fixed several pin prick holes in my tank, only to find out that now i'm leaking gas from the fuel filter on the bottom of the tank. not even the gasket, its coming out of the seams on the filter! >:(
if you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem.

Yup its a bummer. I know its an old bike but its still frustrating. I know someone with a cb500 with 60,000 miles on the clock and is the same age as mine and he has had it for a year and done nothing to it.. I know its a honda and all but its still frustrating! Well mine has a mot in 2 weeks... fingers crossed there isn't anything more or seriously wrong.. the discs go on this weekend. The tank seems to be holding but I'm not riding her much until I've done the mot then I can get the tank and panels on her and respray the belly pan to match(ish). Fingers crossed!!! :icon_rolleyes:
