"Minty" 1992 Suzuki GS500E Story

I just acquired a 1992 GS500E and have never seen such a clean bike for its age.

I have been a track rider for about three years and have really enjoyed the speed and dynamics of the sport. My favorite track is Auto Park Speedway and have enjoyed the likes of Pahrump, Buttonwillow, and Willow Springs Raceway. I have just recently put track riding on the back burner due to the cost required for frequent participation.

A few months ago, I began looking for a fun, unique motorcycle for riding up to coffee and an occasional sprint out to my local twisties; and VIOLA...the find...a sweet little 1992 Suzuki GS500E with 5024 miles.

I learned of this bike through a friend of a friend. When I first went to look at it, I  was skeptical due to its age and the fact that is was marketed  as a "great beginner bike". I am used to my 136 RWHP race bike hitting 175 MPH on the straights, and doing everything in my power to keep the front wheel on the ground, but hen he opened the garage door to reveal the bike, all of my doubts were blotted out by this shiny red bike that looked as if it were placed in a time capsule for 15 years.
I began doing some research on this sweet little piece of history and eventually discovered this forum dedicated to the GS500 series.

This bike is completely, bone stock. The paint on the tank, fender, and body work is perfect. The engine casings are gorgeous. The gauges, seat, controls, and wheels look almost new. Believe it or not, this bike has the original 17 year old tires! The guy I bought it from changed all of the fluids and cleaned and adjusted the carbs.

I know, I know...where are the photos? I will take some pictures in the next couple of days and post 'em. Since I am new to this bike and forum, any input or advice would be appreciated.

Probably something you're already looking at, but 17 year old tires might have some issues so you might want to replace them.

Thanks for the advice on the tires...but you are right...I have already ordered a set. I have some Michelin Pilot Activ Tires on the way! I stayed with the 130 and 110 stock size.

Cool, another great 1992 find - I found a very clean '92 a couple of weeks back for a steal as it had modded parts on it already.  The blue book on mine in the condition it is in is $1450.  I paid $1500 as the owner was firm due to everything that was done to it.

Yours with half the miles of mine should be a bit higher but not much I would think.

Either way, it is a great bike.  I love mine sooooo much already.  Got a new 15t sprocket coming for just a bit more punch.

I agree the little GS looks great stock but it is also a blank canvas from which you can express your personality.  So you can keep it stock or tires today, maybe shock tomorrow, then new handle bars....have fun!

Time capsule ?

"Time capsule" is a euphemism for "very well preserved". The pictures do not do it justice. When you get your nose down close to the details, the minty fairies begin to appear. The pipes appear to be a determining factor as to condition with these bikes and they have no signs of corrosion and are as black as...well you get the picture.

I knew that someone was going to ask me that sooner or later. To be honest with you...I might have to sell it to help come up with a down payment for a new house. Now putting on my salesman hat, revealing what I paid for it would not be a smart negotiating tool. Let's just say that I didn't steal it. I paid a bit of a premium because I am a sucker for a pretty face.

So.........if anyone is interested in this baby, keep your eye on this site, in the for sale section in the next couple of weeks.

is $1000-$2000 for a house really worth letting this one go?  Mine is near exact condition as yours with mods and it was $1500.  I would be curious what you get for it.  Personally I would sell a dog or gun before this bike.
