the mrs came in this evening with a new one she had seen at work- this is legit, this is no bulls*t, this child's name was

L'-A (that's Ladasha to the some odd 299 million folks, including myself, in the US that didn't know)

it doesn't matter the ethnic background, hell i have seen plenty of strange ass names from all races and creeds- it just seems a shame to shackle some youngster with the name L'-A.

Before you make fun of anyone's name, you may want to consider that it's different culture.  Also L'-A might be as common in that country as "Smith" or "Jones" is in THIS country.

well, for what it's worth, my name is Payam....it doesnt sound like it's spelled nor can ~I~ pronounce it as it's a word/name in Thai and Farsi

it wasn't a joke. My wife saw it pursuant to some forms being filled out.
and i am very familiar with given names from asia, europe, the african continent, the middle east, our friends in israel, and i have never seen a "blank" , i.e. "-" used in place of/substitued for a letter. plenty of dashes within names, but that's it.
my ex-wife's middle sister was going to name her 1st born (if female) "Shaloe" (that's as close to her punctuation per my wife at the time as i can spell it) i asked my wife to find out just exactly how they were spelling "Shaloe", well it turned out to  be Chloe. so my dumbass sister-in-law was going to name her daughter Chloe, but thinking it was Shaloe. again, brilliant move.
I went to junior college with a Walker Trott, and senior college with Bob Sled-
i don't care where these guys folks were from, but they made their offspring's name a perpetual joke- if you don't think it's funny, that's fine by me, if you don't find it sorta sad, that's ok too- but if you check back with them in about 40 years on the general public's take on their monikers i think you'll find yourself in the minority.

What about tribal african names that contain clicks.  This cleaner where I work is african and his name is Mark but his real tribal name contains 3 clicks....heck I would not even know where to start spelling that
