hey have any of you guys tried to put SV or GSXR front fairings on your GS?
I have a 99 GS500E & I want to put full front fairings on it for street use. I'm pretty decent at fab'ing up mounts & such,... I would just like to know if the SV650s or Gixxer fairings are about the right size before I haul off & spend a lot of $$$ on it

I definitely have to see this. Make sure you take lots of pictures and post them! Quick question though...where do you plan on getting the GXR or SV fairing? Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy an after market for the GS? Or are you trying a one off sort of thing?

mach1

you can find the fairings on ebay or get some aftermarket ones for those bikes. the gsxr may be too wide being a 4 banger but the sv may fit.

You can put any fairings on any bike, just look at what Mmotos does, they fabricate some bars that span across the bike using the stock mounting points then locate the new mounts on those. If you look in this pic on the left there are some of the brackets with the new headlight bracket. You would have to set the bike on a rear stand, mock up the new body on the bike measure  out where the new mounting holes need to be, fab some bars to go between your existing mounts, tac weld some tabs on the bars to get the new mounting holes, make sure everything fits, then weld the tabs for strength and clean up the bars. Then mount and ride.

Current project:
Mmotos full body kit (YOU DONT WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THEM... READ MY THREAD BOOT STATE UPDATE)
K&N Lunchbox
Buddah's jets
CBR F2 rearsets
Ducati pass pegs (Modified)
Kat rear wheel
Carbon Fiber Exhaust Can, possibly shortened and relocated
And so on......
