Glove Issues

So I wanted to share my experience and see if this was universal for this brand, or if I'm just having crappy luck.

I bought a plain set of Fieldsheer gloves when I first started riding.  http://www.fieldsheer.com/site2009/IE/product/tiairmeshglove.htm

Had these on when I crashed my SV650.  Burned out the backs of them on the asphalt, left a quarter size rash on the back of my left hand.  Slid about 50' on old asphalt.  They didn't offer much protection and didn't survive the crash.

I replaced them with these: http://www.fieldsheer.com/site2009/IE/product/Mach6MeshGlove.htm .  They have extra protection in the area that failed in the crash.  I LOVED these, but they wore out after about 6 months of intermittent riding (riding about an hour about once a week).

I then replaced them with these: http://www.fieldsheer.com/site2009/IE/product/57bob.htm .  These fit very well, but they started separating at the stitching after the third time I wore them.

So my experience with Fieldsheers isn't very good.  First set had poor crash resilience, second set wore out quickly, third set didnt' even get a good start. 

As a gear review, I don't know if I have bad luck with gloves, or if these are just a poor investment.

I had the same as yours second pair. I did not like them at all. very flimsy looking, the rubbers on top just fell off after few rides and they were not comfy.
I have fieldsheer jacket and it looks alright but the gloves are not good.

I went with these and love them: AGV GPR full leather

they may seem to be not very comfy at first, but once they brake in after few rides they are great and offer MUCH more protection than fieldsheer mesh gloves.

EDIT: I know the price tag is a lot higher, but if you sum up all the money you already spent on fieldsheer gloves then you could easily pay for the pair of good gloves

i can't say i've used your brand of gloves, but i can attest to the reliability of the joe rocket gloves. I've crashed mine once, a little scuffing occurred. I also use them for automotive work in the winter and just generally as winter gloves. they work well until the weather gets below 5 celcius, but i sweat buckets when the weather is above 25c.

Well with those first two pairs of gloves I think you were just asking for trouble. I think those kinds of gloves are more for peice of mind than they are for protection. I've worn thin gloves like that in summer, but know they wouldn't ever do much in a crash.

I've only had one pair of fieldsheer gloves(but can't find a picture of them), and they're also started to come apart at some of the seams, so I think it's probably just poor quality, but I really don't expect 13 year olds in 3rd world countries to be able to sew that well. The pair I have is a full legth glove with carbon knuckles. They leather feels softer than protective equipment should, in my opinion, and the carbon does have a thin crack in it in the carbon, but they're by far the most comfortable gloves I have so I've held onto them.

I think you just need to start looking into nicer gloves. Something thick and something with real knuckle protection. I can tell from the picture that those knuckle guards look kinda cheap and probably wouldn't hold up in a crash.

I've never tried FieldSheer gloves but has similar problems with Cortech gloves the first pair had an awful ridge in them that made a blister on my pinkie during MSf so I traded them in and got a second pair that within a week had a hole in the pinkie! Took it back to the dealer and they upgraded me to the Fox Bomber glove. I never tested them in a crash but they were mesh with leather palms and carbon fiber over every point area on the glove knuckles and finger tips. I had them for a year and a half and they still would have been great but were stolen from me at work.

Right now I'm sporting a pair of Power Trip Bravo or Abram (they look almost exactly alike) and it is an all leather glove with knuckle and finger protection. I got them for a steal being that I have small hands so they were $13. You can see pics of them in the glove thread that was up recently by Alpha!

The problem is... you're getting crappy quality gloves. Fieldsheer used to be good, then they went downhill. I would not recommend anything from them anymore.

Get yourself a pair of QUALITY all leather gloves.

To add to your review I figured I'd pick up a nice pair of waterproof gloves in the off season. I just got them and believe it or not the right hand is too small and the left hand fits perfect? WTF?

For a good review I bought these Olympia 100% leather gloves with Kevlar 19 years ago and they are still kicking! All stitching is still in excellent condition!

Thanks for the advice - I know there are 1000 threads on gear, but wanted to address these specific gloves.

It just occurred to me that I can post the crash pics, since the case is settled now. 

The worst part was the torn meniscus and damaged rotator cuff.

I've never had any quality control problems and they seem very well made. The eskimo glove is the warmest glove I've ever put my hand into and makes heated grips completely unnecessary. The fury glove is all leather, has good knuckle protection and is very comfortable. I have never crashed in either glove so I can't say anything about the durability to that degree, but having crashed in much lesser gloves I'm not too worried.

TBH those gloves don't look like they'd protect me from one of my classic trip and falls (toogoofy is my handle for a reason). This is what I'm sporting now and for $13 i really can't complain!

Let's see, I wear a pair of Joe Rocket Stag one summer gloves.  They have leather on the back of the knuckles and some pretty sturdy plastic on the pinky/ring finger.  The underside consists of all thin leather on the fingers.  There is rough leather on the palms which feels like it could withstand a crash and provides excellent grip on the throttle, even in the rain.  The stitching at tips of the finger is fairly weak.  I was trying to feel where some vibration was coming from on my engine when it was still warm, great idea, I know.  And it melted the stitching, I guess, at the tip of my middle finger on my left glove, creative a hole.  Since I have fairly big hands and even though the gloves are extra large, the hole has become progressively larger with almost everyday wear.  After breaking them in they fit, well, like a glove.  The leather on the fingers give great feedback and I can easily put my helmet on with the gloves on.

Handle?  Wow!  Hahaha that's funny because this year for AP Lang we had hundreds of vocab words, and "cognomen" came up with 'handle' as one of the synonyms.  I've never heard anyone actually use 'handle' in that context before.  Is that common in the south?  My bad on the digression.

It originated from the CB age where you had to have a 'handle' to speak with others because they didn't want to confuse you with say a smokie and such. Admitting my southerness here  my cb handle when I was a kid was "little 8ball" now we got cell phones thank God we don't have to say our "handles" when answering the phone!

I have a set of iCon gloves, all leather, non gauntlet style.  THey are comfy, & seem well put together.  I wear them in the summer time.  Not sure what I'll wear in the winter...

LOL I think it is more of age thing Mary, "Handle" referrring to Citizen Band Radio (which I still have in my car) call sign or name and I bet you couldn't guess mine. And referencing the "Convoy" song by C. W. McCall ? OMG like so tubular is not just a Southern thing. It was the #1 song in 1975. (sorry for small thread jack)

I searched high and low for a good pair and realized that word of mouth was a good thing.  So I got the Power Trip's locally for under $50 and I LOVE THEM!!!  Full leather all around, mesh upper and carbon fiber knuckle protectors.  So far I am very pleased as they breath very well too.

JB I wasn't born until 1980 but it got played constantly on my aunt's car 8 track player I might add!

I got silk liners for my gloves so I'm hoping that will be enought for our "mild" winters although a couple of nights I thought I would lose my fingers from hypothermia LOL!
