So I am new to this but I bought a 2004 GS500F, and when  I am riding, "usually lower speed" and turning I can here a odd noise coming from the bike. I have been reading a lot of posts, but I am not sure this is the same as others. I just tightened the chain up a little, but I am not sure if I should tighten it some more. I thought maybe when i turn it was clinking on the center stand? I aslo read about the non destructive shaft play, also a possibility. Just looking to see if anyone else expierences anything similar.

Thanks

mister

Define: Noise

Is it constant, rythmic, sound like hitting as opposed to grating. Is the bike's Feel altered - does it lurch forward in spurts?

Are you sure you're not in too high a gear when you're going slow and turning?

Idk it is kind of like a clinking, and it is only for a couple clicks, and then it stops. I am not in to high of a gear, and no it desn't lunge forward in spurts. I mean sometimes when I am cruising, it sometimes feels like it feels a little on and off, not significant by any means, it seams like then i may be in two high of gear, and it is wanting to go, but I am not into it.

I just took my bike out for a spin today and noticed a strange noise coming from the front.... especially when encountering rough road.

When I got back home I shook and pushed just about everything on the front of my bike and the only thing that seems a little loose is my front brake pad holder... which isn't good.

You may just want to ride around the neighborhood and see if you can "hone in" on where the sound is coming from and then stop the bike and push and prod until you find something that might be causing the issue.

Thanks, but i have tried kind of to do just that and nothing. When the this is just idleing it runs like a champ. It runs just fine, I just want to keep it that way.

ANYONE ELSE WITH IDEAS??

Is your chain within manufacture specs or are you just tightening until it "looks" right? "Looks" can be deceiving! Then again it could be the cam play. Maybe try to get an audio clip for us. That would help tremendously.

Hey I would, I don't have the manual yet, I will be picking it up next friday. My friends book on a 89 fzr says one inch of up to down action, idk if that sounds right? I think it could go a littler tighter, it is 1.5 to 2 inches of play right now, and the vido clip would be hard, it is mostly when turning?? Keep leaving ideas lol thanks for everyones help so far

about 1 in of play is right measured on the side stand.  High frequency or low frequency clinking?  You don't have anything on your key ring do you? I have one of those quick disconnect things that makes makes a tinking noise :)  That was fun finding...

Are all of your cables secure?  Maybe you're bumping something when you turn?

I know how frustrating it is to have a "weird noise"  I've got two coming from my engine.  One I'm pretty sure is cam walk and the other I have no idea about...

Pimp,

Is this a 1st and 2nd gear only noise. And, in 1st, only when you take off. And in 2nd, only when you have slowed right down with clutch in and then let clutch back out to accelerate again? Is this also a deep click noise and not a high-pitched tinking click?

I'm thinking it's a little freeplay in the gears. Kind of like the little Clunk you can sometimes get going back into first while rolling, as if the clutch didn't engage/disengage properly.

Sound close?

IDK so much about that, at first it is in 1st, (obviousally) just starting out lol, and the pos in 2nd sometimes, i would agree with that, but i have also heard it in 3rd, and such. I thinik the more nad more I talk to people on here, and from around my area it is the chain. My parents neighbor has a hyabussa. He also said that this winter I could use a new chain. He also said they make chain, and front and rear sprocket kist, everything together. Is that true?? anyone?? He said you should change all 3 otehrwise the chain won't last very long at all.

Thanks again everyone i appreciate all the help

KEEP IT COMING

Determined today that is was my chain, so cleaned it up a little and lubed her up and no noise.... I think it is still to loose and can't tighten anymore, time for a new one......
