F**K THIS STATE

I can put up with a lot of shtuff but this tests my limits.

This is just about the best example of why voting doesn't work (sometimes).  Uninformed people voting one way because it seems like the popular thing to do.  Do you know how many people I've talked to that are voting for Arnold and can't even say why????  They eat up the stuff he's been saying like cutting the car registration fees back but if that money goes, what's going to get cut?  This guy has no experience in an office and he is going to be governor?

Ahh I'm so frustrated I can't believe it  :x

I'm with ya.
I didnt vote for Pete Wilson the first time, and didnt this time. Er, I mean Arnold.

My favorite is his promise to remove the gas tax (or some such tax, not sure which)...whose proceeds go toward police and fire departments. I'm sure the Pete Wilson pupeteers will tell him what to do. God help us all.

Californians threw out Davis because he lied and hid the truth about the bloated budget shortfall during the election.  He paid the ultimate price for his lies:  thrown out on his ass.  He deserved it IMHO.

Now why Arnold?  I think because of name recognition and also he's an outsider.  Will things change?  Probably not BUT it does send a message to politicians that voters are watching and paying attention and don't like lies.  Maybe policicians will be a little bit more honest now.

What IS shocking to me is 61% of votes cast voted Republican -now that is really a shock for a liberal state like Cali.

I am with John... But I sorta knew this...That's why I changed my signature 2 weeks ago... people have a general mistrust of politicians... They may not be able to put it in words but the general feeling is there... Till Davis pointed it out... "experience as a politician" I couldn't put it in words either. However Aaaahnold was trying to act like a politician, be one and in general align himself with one. Mistake I thought, I even tried to add that to my sig... But it was over the limit (what's up with that silly limit John...), However you have to think in terms of what is best for CA... well this may not be the best... but it is likely to be pretty good atleast in the near term...
38 billion shortfall... and no taxes can be raised and no added taxes can be put in... Referendum's and prop's wont let it happen, also CA has this High profile republican (well not really but they will take it as one) that appeals to immigrants, young people, and democrats and the weirdo's and idiots as well... Cant beat that, also CA is going to be the first of a long list of states that have a succesful recall... So effectively what will happen is Aaah nold will go to the federal govt and ask for 40 billion to patch the shortfall. The Republican dominated govt will pretty much grant it to them in an effort to turn the state into a republican stronghold. Aaahnold might have been more popular as an independent, or if he didn't try to be a politician... but this will effectively guarantee the $$$ from the feds... Basically bad news for the rest of the country. Untill we elect the Rock republican (Dibs on Rock for NC governor), You can have Vin Diesel we dont care... We want some of that Rock... Long term... well a economic re-boom needs to happen to off set anything, and if it does with CA at the front of it... 38 billion is a joke to repay. Else it will drag down the rest of the US with it... Hope not... but lets see... This will make for more recalls in other states though...
Cool.

Crazier things have happened, and who knows, maybe Aaahnold will actually do some good things.  How much worse could he be than what Cali has already had?  Remember Governor Rainbow (Jerry Brown?).
If Min-A-So-Ta can elect a former wrestler, why not Aaahnold?
Many folks thought Ronald Reagan would be a disaster, calling him plastic, dim-witted; so under Reagan the economy was basically stable and expanded, and the iron curtain fell.  Not bad for a guy who made grade-B flicks with chimpanzees.
We're surviving here in New Yawk with Senator Hillary Rotten Clinton, and I'm sure Cali will survivie Aaahnold.
Gawd I love politics.  So much fun!!.

I guess you guys aren't aware that the recall drive was funded in whole ($2million dollars worth) by a Republican congressman, Daniel Issa. Had it been a regular run of the mill recall attempt it would have failed.

Read about it in last weeks New York Times Magazine.

Arnold has no idea how he is going to deal with the vast problems facing this state. He has the whole advisory group from Pete Wilson's governorship so you can expect the same BS we had with Pete, and the people voted against him 5 years ago. An dthey also re-elected Davis only a year ago...how easily money makes people forget.

The only problem is that Aaaahnold is a sort of an idiot... Lucky yes, but definitely stupid, has no basic principle and certainly has no tact or finesse. Jesse Ventura actually was a very astute and analytical person who basically believed that Career politicians is or should be an oxy moron... The intent for our constitution and the fore bearers was that people form all walks of life are elected to form the government. Career politicians work for furthering their career instead of furthering the cause. career politicians have no knowledge of anything but politics and government and as such atre not able to provide subject matter intelligence on anything. Say this 4 years we elected a teacher... and he worked to create a good school infrastructure, next 4 years we elected a construction worker and he worked to make a better infrastructure... and so on... You get the idea. Now we have people clueless about any of the real issues holding the positions that can make changes to real life. Simple. Ventura hopefully did not work himself into permanent politics and worked for the people that put him there.

Yes they did, under the false pretense that things were much better than they were.  Right after the election news of huge deficits came out when just months eariler they were saying things were fine when Gray-out Davis was running for reelection.

Like I said, lieing to voters can sometimes have drastic consequences.

Anyway, how could it possibly be worse out there than it already is?

It definitely can get worse...
Businesses are moving out of CA, most big ones are moving to the third world and that move is characterstically slow, they could move more of it out of CA to other states (typical spots were Austin TX, Reno NV, Phoenix AZ, SLC UT, Oregon and to a smaller extent east coast) and those moves are actually much quicker than the off shore moves. That would drive un employment through the roof in CA, double the states unemployment payouts (already the highest total amount in the country I believe)and eventually force the residents to move out in search of employment there by causing a bigger shortfall in revenues taken in on taxes and revenue base (I did so last year after over 6 months of un employment and a pretty sucky 3 month position). That will really send the mortgage and residential service industry into a nose dive, which will in turn drive down revenues to the state form property taxes, and in the end the state will be paying out a lot more to maintain an infrastructure which is being used by a lot less people and the state will be taking in a lot less from goods and services and income taxes... cant see it happening... you are not alone... Neither does the new governor of CA. I believe that is the only course of events... well hopefully not this drastic but I believe it is. I am not predicting Gloom and doom ... far from it. Its just that too many racketeers, profiteers, crooks, thieves and liars aren't done milking the CA system just yet. When its done and they move on to where the milking is good... That is when it is going to improve.
Cool.

I am neither... But it is happening. Its hit nearly everyone I know in the face. However the move to third world isn't really the gloom and doom its made out to be... Why... the cost savings are supposed to be ~30%. Businesses figure out they can move from CA to say Kansas or TX ot NE or NC and still manage to make the 30% savings (they can cos they paying me 30%+ less and my office rent is 200+% less and I am happy cos this place is 200% cheaper, and my office is nicer... BTW I have a partial window Werase... and real sky and D/T view... not a picture of it like your article said) and do it quicker and not give up many of the tax advantages and not get a black mark form the public... Guess what... its going to be very very quick.

Disgruntled Californians can move to Canada!

They won't pay you're college education, put a roof over your head, or serve you a free lunch, but you do get to pay high taxes.

Doesn't Canada offer free health care and in some "states" they include dental and vision services?
Hmmm... according to census information, the cost of living in Canada is equal to living in the US and they pay only 17% of income to taxes while we end up paying about 22%.

Any Canadians wanna pipe in - I've got future interest into moving into Canada and I'm curious!!!

Rolly

The Buddha

Well Free health is not there anymore, dental and vision were already not there (in 2000 when I was there), and that 17% to taxes is bull. They have 15% sales tax... (7 GST and 8 PST). At one time I calculated 36% in US to 42% in canada for the same income and same number of dependents.
