NO POWER!!!

Hello everyone its been a while.  After my wifes accident on our 500 i kinda moved up to a zx-12.  I since then went down on it and barely survived.  ANYWHO  i am being given another GS500 wich has been completely restored except it has a power problem.  Starts and runs fine but takes a while to get up to speed.  not like our last 500.  i remember ther being tons of posts about this issue but i need a refresher on this site.  You guys taught me i can do anything with the right instruction so here i am again kindly and eagerly seeking your advice.  Tank has been treated but the previous owner never messed with the carbs or exhaust.  Maybe its the color paint he sprayed it with?  j/k  any help would be great.  Budha will prolly be wanting some jets soon too!  man i am excited!  thanks guys(and gals)

you have post zx12 disorder. it will pass after a few months of commuting on the gs.










maybe your carbs need a little tweaking ? new plugs, fresh gas, and make sure your brakes aren't draggin good luck !

Yeah maybee your right............LOL....yeah he is gonna drop the bike off at my house tomorrow so im gonna go through the carbs, never thought about the brakes .  i ride it like it is even. kind wanna commute back and forth to school,  think it would hurt it?

k well got the bike today and it goes but doesnt get over about 6k. doesnt bog but does have some nasty downshift noise maybe fuel air mixture?  got a vance and hines exhaust but not sure about an airbox or jets.  any help would be nice?

Well glad you're OK post ZX-12 crash. And better yet are back on 2 wheels on a GS that too.

6k ? if its 9K in first, 8 in second, 7 in 3rd and 6k in 5-6 ... as in Rpm max is lower and lower with increasing load, that is a rip in the diaphragm. One of the 2 with a rip you cant even see will do that.
Clogged or more likely high floats will do that if you dont have a rip in the diaphragm.
Air filter and exhaust being clogged as well.

oalright....i took the carbs out and when i opened the first one up PLOP! there goes a jet.  it was just sitting in the bowl. so i put it back in and now its out of gas. go figure. will update again when wifey get back with gas

Yea still doing jet packs, though I'm waiting on the sorry ass dealer to get me the 4 packs of 40's I ordered.

These 40's they dont last at all, hardly ... the 150's and 125's are much longer lasting ... these go fast ...
