WOW! That makes my stomach ache! He posted the pictures to warn people not to have the bike running to clean / lube the chain. The sad permanent mistake is that with the wheel in motion, he placed a loose object (rag) near the chain and like a hungry monster, it gobbled the tips of his fingers. Uuuuuuuggggghhhhh, I think I will have nightmares on that one.

Lol that thought has crossed my mind while I was cleaning my own chain but then I thought..What if my fingers get caught in the sprocket.

I have an uncle with 1 thumb who did the exact same thing when he was younger.

The way I do woodworking and can still count to 10 with my shoes on is to pay attention to the voice in my head that says "this is a dumb idea" and STOP, then figure out a different way to do things when it speaks up.

The chain guard is not there for window-dressing. This is also why I completely don't get so-called "motorcycle boots" that have laces. Lace comes undone, sucks into the chain, starts hauling your foot in after it. Better hope it's a really weak bootlace...

i would have done the exact same thing, 20 years ago, if i had a motorcycle had it not been for someone like this posting their experience...

ok sorta. a friend got his finger nipped in a bicycle chain, jumped and howeled like mad... and i learned. we can all learn from it. sure, you say you knew better. sure you really think you did. sure, those images will be burned into your cortex for a really long time, and SURE you won't ever do it since they are. he helped ya, admit it or not

that is the reason we have those dumb ass warning stickers all about. liek th one on a mower tellign you to NOT put hands  under deck while motor is running, otherwise severe injury may result. ( someone did just that, sued and won. )

I read a story about that once, It involved a dad and his son who picked up their mower from either end and used it as a hedge trimmer.

Whats awesome is the fact that he obviously decided to take some pics right then and there... There are still tools on the ground!    seems his first thoughts went to taking pics of it... LOL

Seen worse, but at least he had the balls to tell what happened, the shocking part is; he took the pics before he went to the ER... This is what happens when your in a rush and but corners...

Hopefully it helps everyone think about their safety.  Guess I shouldn't have cleaned the winter rust off my chain with a wire brush while in sixth gear then?  D'oh!
