If I remember correctly, I think I read that the CBR 600 F1 fork tubes are the same diameter as the GS500 (direct swap).  Is that right?  And are there any other parts that swap over?  Going to look at an '87 CBR600 this evening.  Thanks

Big Shot

Grab the whole FE unless someone jumps in here and let's you know exactly just what you need.  And by whole FE i mean everything that's attach in one way or another to the forks and/or triples.  I can't imagine that year bike has much in the way of demand so you should be able to get it pretty cheap.  If he won't be reasonable tell him to let it sit in his garage for another two years and then to give you call and ask you if your willing to still give him $50 for it.  My two cents...

As far as all FE's go for the most part, if you have the whole thing then the only mod if needed would be to the stem.  Once that's done, everything else is cake  :thumb:

Bob, are you saying it is a direct swap? if so then do you know if any years of the CBR600 will fit the GS, also do post 01 gs FE fit the pre 2001 gs?

the F-1 forks swap directly into the GS tripples
then add the clip-ons and you are in the good
max front tire is a 110 due to the rim being a 2.75 inch wide rim
don/t need spacers
fender from hurricane fits as is
swap complete brakes

it's a good mod with vintage parts

you can probably swap the rear wheel/brakes....to get matching rims

never did that cause the rim was same width as GS(3.5)

Thanks for the response Bob.  I got the whole bike for $300.  Curious if any of the other parts are an easy swap on a GS (rear wheel, rear shock...).  It was already dark when I picked it up so I didn't get a good look at it, I'll tear into it at the shop tomorrow on my lunch break and see what I've got.  Luckily this bike can't go the same way as the last "parts" bike.  Last month I picked up a "junk" Katana for a front end donor but I ended up getting it to run decent.  Then I couldn't bring myself to tear it apart.  The CBR doesn't have a title so it is only good for parts   ;)

werase643- Never done this before, thanks for the run down.  Can I just run the stock GS bars if I like them?  Thanks

NICE!!  WOO your the first person ive seen to list more than one directly swappable part for the GS. and the only one to give a straight up answer about swapping forks.

Bump

Stripping the bike this weekend, any other parts worth saving?  Thanks

-Jessie

gregvhen

uh, if by saving you mean not throwing away, then send me everything you would otherwise throw away, cause my bike was wrecked and im restoring alot of differant parts.  :icon_mrgreen:

gregvhen

especially send me any electrical devices/wiring and any hoses, breather hoses, fuel lines, all mine are dry rotted.  :icon_sad:

BaltimoreGS

I'm stripping an '87 Honda CBR600 Hurricane, not a GS in case I wasn't clear.  At this point the front end is the only part I know that I am saving.  I'm assuming all the hoses/fuel lines will be dry rotted worse than whatever you have.  You can get bulk hose pretty cheap at an auto parts store and cut it to length.  If there are any parts you think you can use that I don't want for myself you are welcome to them, whatever is left on the bike after this weekend is going in the scrap metal pile.

Someone said that the F1 forks fit right into GS triples, and then they said get clip ons and your good, so can you not use risers with the F1 forks? or will that take some modding?

werase643

you can use the stock GS h-bars....if you want....
kinda implied that they work on stock tripples....and the stock top plate
and the stock h-bars

i did this swap in.....94 ish  when I got a GS with no forks

and I had a Hurricane parts bike

Can I have the tail light and blinkers? all four blinkers not just tail blinkers?

BaltimoreGS

I know the taillight is still on the bike.  There was no body work on the bike because the last owner used it for "stunting."  He did give me a bin full of parts though so I'll check if there are turn signals in there.  I left the bike carcass and parts bin at my friends garage to dispose of but I'm sure it will still be there next weekend, he wanted to salvage the engine.  I'll check when I go over next Sunday.  Later
