Selling the Bike or Part Out (TESTING THE WATERS)

Hello All,
I am in a position where I am needing to sell my bike. I have really enjoyed re-building it, probably a bit more than riding it. So, I am testing the waters here to see if anyone is in the market for a bike? I am also considering parting it out as well but I don't want to start pulling it apart just yet. I probably would want to get some definite commitments before I started a tear down / sell off - a - thon. Anyway, here are some pictures as it sits. It is in running condition but I will say that I am still having some difficulties with the Idle going a bit high. I just received some additional valve shims and will replace those before I sell it off.

Anyway, let me know if you are interested in the whole bike or parts. Anyone interested in the whole bike, I am asking for $1550 firm. If no one is interested in the bike here, I will start taking dibs on parts but I will need some strong commitments before I start pulling things off.

EDIT: I guess it would be helpful to know. It is a 1996 model with approximately 23000 miles on it. (I have specific mileage, just not in front of me at the moment.)

Thanks,
Chris B.

heehee.... yeah, if I keep it, I definitely will. May do it anyway. First things first, I have to get rid of that rust pipe. Had some flexible stainless ordered but it turned out too big. Now I am just lazy and don't want to re-order the smaller size.  O0

i was in the same boat earlier this year (or was it last). I ended up keeping the bike and sticking it through.

best of luck w/ sale, if it were closer i'm sure a few buddies of mine are interested in GS's

Still considering a full part out on this bike. I have someone interested in the frame which would cover 1 of the major pieces I was worried I wouldn't sell easily. If I have enough interest in all the parts, I might consider selling it all. Keep in mind, I am not 100% sure of parting it out and it would really come down to someone wanting the major parts first before I would go forward.

Other than that, I am really considering keeping it a bit longer to get "some" enjoyment from it. Heck, I've only had the chance to ride it a few times since it has been back together.

I think I will let this post go for a few more days to see if there is any interest before I make my mind up.

I would be interested in the tail light and custom side cover :thumb:

Good luck! If you do part it let me know about the light

Well, not many offers at all. Could be the season, could be the economy. I finally got it riding well again tonight so, I guess I will go ahead and keep it for a while. Maybe get my GSXR front end on this winter. Maybe install the GSXR swing arm and a big fat 180 on the rear so i can make it a real slow pig. It is paid for so, why not. Right? :thumb:

You have to sorta consider your target market.

People here are GS hardened they literally like anything that gets rid of the shitty 80's plastic and they admire your work more than the actual way it looks.

We like the high pipe, we like the cool ass tail light (cos we're sick of looking @ the crappie cockroach tail stock GS light) blah bla bla ...

However your target market dont have a clue what a GS is. In fact they are considering GS vs EX vs EX250 vs some crap like rebel and night hawk 250. To them, your bike looks just like ... "I crashed and forgot to fix it".

In a way most mods get a negative value in resale unless you made it look stock (or in my small stretched imagination) like it came from the factory.

The second point is - there is a ton of garbage on craigslist. You're fighting for air amongst that trash. I would still think a proper GS500 should get a good set of people calling.

If it was stock your 23K miler should get ~14-1500. Right in there with your asking $. Yours while its not that radical, does look a bit extreme. I'd revert it to stock and sell in spring.

BTW I am still getting tons of action on the savage and maxim ... I've just not got em sold, but the maxim is a hard bike to sell anyway, old and powerful is a bad combo. Savage ... prolly should be yellow, my yellow one sold in quick time ...  :o

Good points all. I sort of figured now might be the time to sell it as a part out / parts bike. But, just deciding to keep it and learn more and more.

The Buddha

Oh well ... sorta not my point.

Somehow I never took to that veypor look. I like the boobies look of the stock GS guages.

The rest of your bike is nearly stock.
Yea tail light licence plate combo just screams squid. Just slap an "stended arm" on it and chrome it ... then maybe add some 300 wide spinners and its gotta be "slammed" ... even the FU(king language is awful. Slammed, yea we should chop a tree with it parked under it to slam it.  :cookoo: ...

Looks like you're dragging your fat a$$ all over town.

You want a 100 inch wheel base and a 20 inch seat height ... great idea ... they make these things now a days ... called a cruiser. Buy those.

Anyway ... do a light reversal to stock. it will easily get you the $ you're asking for. Even in winter ... you're by AL/LA somewhere right ... what winter is what I say.
