According to the wikipedia, you can put clip on the GS500F

http://wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Upgrades.Handlebars

"he second method is to remove the top plate that has the normal handlebar clamps and lower the forks slightly, then place the clip ons directly above the top triple clamp. "

Clip-ons can be had from companies like Vortex and Woodcraft for roughly $120 plus shipping. The necessary size is 37mm.

Okay so I have the clip on, however if I don't understand, if I remove the the top plate how the tacho and RPM thing will hold to the bike??
Because it's the top plate that hold them

Well, you can cut down the mounts for the existing handelbars, then bondo and paint so you have a nice even surface, or you could mount a new bracket to hold the gauge cluster, or you could leave the top plate with the clamps and just put on the clip ons, they wont interfere with anything.

What did I do you may ask, well I left the clamps on there with my clipons on it.  For one, it doesnt look bad at all, and for two, if I ever want to mount a GPS to my bike I can just chop a 7/8's handle bar, mount it with the brackets, then mount the GPS to the bar using a mounting kit for 7/8 in bars.  Cool huh?  I will try to get pics up this afternoon, im at work now so no can do.

If you don't remove the top plate, I don't see how you would have enough space to put the clip on over it unles you lower the forks a lot. Even if you remove the top plate you would have to lower the forks slightly...

I wish I could put the clip on UNDER the plates, put I am affraid it would touch the fairing.

I put the clipons under the top clamp on mine, but I have the naked version so it doesn't hit anything.

You have a couple options. The first one I tried, which you have to be careful with, is to take your top clamp, cut and grind it carefully so there's just enough there to bolt the speedo on. You can cut off the sides so the clipons sit right on top of the lower top clamp , and the upper top clamp is out of the way. Otherwise you need to take off the upper top clamp completely, just get thick sheet metal, and just cut yourself a new mount. If you really just want it on there and don't care you can just ziptie the gauges on there.

Great input!

So yeah maybe I just creat a new mount like that:

but I'm affraid there will be a lot of vibration stress on the speedo :icon_confused:

you could put the clip ons under the top triple. itll be a more aggressive sport feel. dont know if you like or dislike that.

Gregvhen, the problem is: if you put the clip on under the top triple it will most likely touch the fairing. If someone prove me otherwise I would be happy, but I am sure that it will touch.

yeah, below the triple will likely hit. What I did was found these  http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=582115&store=&catId=&productId=p582115&leafCatId=&mmyId=   and cajoled my machinist friend to make a pair for me. $70 for the pair seemed insane to me. I removed the stock bar mount entirely, and mounted the clamps for the gauges below the triple. i am SUPER happy with the ergos, for me they are comfy @ 5'-11". With these and the Woodcraft rearsets, it's like a whole new bike. I did, however, need to re-route my clutch and choke cables to keep everything playing nicely when steering lock to lock.

they will hit the fairing, I brain stormed that option.  Just slide the forks up a bit, and put them about the top plate. Leave the clamps there for now.  If you try fabbing up a mounting bracket your going to waste valuable time when you can be ridding, i know by experience.  Check it out.

and here is the newest picture, I rotated my brake and clutch levers forward more.

Alright great info there  :thumb:

tulebox-> would you have any picture? I do not speak perfect englis and I'm not sure to understand what you did correctly. Do you have the clip on UNDER the top plate? That would be awsome but I didn't undestand how.

joker-> great!! Doesn't it make problem when you are breaking hard? Like the front fairing touch the upper front wheel or something like that?

gsf- it's tucked away in my Parent's garage at the moment. Look at the pctures above, I removed the silver colored handlebar mount, and didn't need to move the forks at all, just slid clipon right over fork tubes. The two-piece mounts I had made up I mounted UNDER the triple, this lowered the gauges a bit, but helps as the clipons brought me closer to the gauges anyhow. I thought the black triple would look terrible under the bar mount riser, but I actually think it looks kinda cool, like a "works" one-off custom triple. I may have a plate made up this winter, I haven't made a decision yet. I have JUST enough room at full lock each side for hand clearance (i wear a 3x glove,BTW) so parking lot manuvers still are easy.

looks good but doesn't the steering become somewhat twitchy when you slide the fork tubes up like that?

My experience on other bikes in past suggests this. It was reverse, weird slow steering if I move the other way (had longer tubes from Forks by Frank on srx6). There is a sweet spot for each bike and its usually what factory set up.

I didnt notice any squirrly movement after I did that.  Maybe it was because I put my sonic springs on at the same time  :dunno_white:.  Oha and GS, nothing hits when I brake hard.  Plus, your going to want to get stiffer front springs anyway.  Ever notice how you slide forward a lot when you brake, its because the stock springs are REALLY soft.  I didnt notice it till I changed springs, and I also put a Kat shock on.  I went with sonicsprings for the front because they were cheaper and shipped em that day, pretty awesome.
