My Clutch cable frayed and snapped overnight . . . .

I went out to start my bike this morning and found that my clutch would not disengage, and upon inspection found that my clutch cable is hanging on by a single chord. All others are frayed and snapped. It's a ~$20 part, which I can manage. Installation, however, I must be able to do myself. How difficult is it to replace a clutch cable? What all is involved? Any help/insight is greatly appreciated.

If you have any mechanical skill, nothing to it. If everything you touch works worse afterwards, it can be a problem.

Basically, slack off all the adjusters. Take the tank off. Route the new cable the same as the old cable unless you find blatant evidence that the old cable was routed wrong. Clymer (P. 203-204) suggests pulling the old cable out with a string tied to it, and pulling the new cable in with the string. If in a hurry, adjust it so it works and ride - but later, or if not in a hurry, go through the complete adjustment sequence (3 places - the pushrod pusher, the adjustment on top of the sprocket cover (which, of course, you have to take off to replace the cable, - 8mm bolts, plus a 10mm to take the gearshift lever off) and finally the adjustment at the lever.

Don't forget to lube the new cable.
