fuel injected 500

Hello Firiends,

I wonder if there will be a fuel injected gs 500 on the maket.
here in Brasil all new models has to be fuel injected by law.
so I just wander if there will be one wil we gaing hp'S?

Some people were talking about this a couple months back. The general consensus was "no", unfortunately.

I belieive there was a member who put a turbo on the gs 500,.
would be nice indeed, nice boost. but injection would be nice too,..

Whenever I hear EFI and GS500 in one sentence I get shivers, the good ones
It would be awesome. I do not necessarily need more power, but wouldn't it be great to be able to start the bike in the coldest days of the winter with just one push of the button, instead of fiddling with the choke etc. It is not a big deal to do that but I am just wondering and dreaming...

Anyways, theoretically speaking:

- would Suzuki R&D Team be able to implement fuel injection in such an old bike?
- how much would it increase the price of the bike?
- would it require many additional changes to the bike design?
- would it make business sense for them to do that?

If you have an answer to any of those questions, please share your knowledge. I have very limited knowledge about EFI and how it works, and would love to hear some opinions.
But don't flame me please. I am not going to try to custom fit EFI to my GS500, unless Suzuki comes with 'bolt-on'

would probably bump the price up a bit making it not worth it to get a gs500 instead of sv650

sv650 is fuel injected.. very nice bike

The whole electrical system would need reworked/upgraded. A lot of nicer bikes before EFI still had fuel pumps, the GS would be skipping that step completely. I don't know much about it either, but I wouldn't assume too much would need to be done to the engine, as fuel injection pretty much starts with a big enough hole in the gas tank to fit a fuel pump, down to the way the gas/air mix is shot into the engine. I don't think it's actually a matter of what the engine does with it.

Could be completely wrong on that though. The only thing I do know, is how nice it was to hit the start button and run back inside the house while it warmed up when I had my last bike.

Besides, being carbed is why I bought the GS as a "new" bike anyway. I like my bikes simple and able to tune without a computer.

15 years ago I would have agreed with that statement but after owning and learning how fuel injection works it is actually a lot more convenient to own/ride and easier to "tune" with fuel injection. I think carburetors are a lot more work and harder to understand than fuel injection which is why I have a lot of admiration and respect for people that can really tune carbs.

I agree, that fuel injection has its advantages, besides no choke in the morning.
it will give some more power and consumes less fuel also seems to be good for the enviroment, wich we should respect as well.
about the HP.
this seems to me as no importance, here in Brasil they drive on Yamaha YBR bikes 125 and 250 cc's with feul injection!
Another commercial argument for the producer would be that the sales of the 500 twin will be "0" year to come because of the obligation by law wich requires that all NEW bikes have to be fuel injected.
if Suzuki does not deliver. there will be NO new 500's sold here in Brasil.
the SV 650 does not compare to the 500 the SV is definately another bike. ( drove one )

If I had money to blow I would upgrade my old Nighthawk 250 to that new fuel injected Suzuki TU250.

15 years ago I would have agreed with that statement but after owning and learning how fuel injection works it is actually a lot more convenient to own/ride and easier to "tune" with fuel injection. However you can tune carbs with a screwdriver and your ear. The FI tuning always requires some gizmo specific to the vehicle you're tuning.

I don't know about Market Appeal. I'll take the GS for looks any day. If this was all that was available from Suzuki, I'd buy another brand with a more retro looking bike. Like the Honda CB400 or CB900 - cause the new 600 looks like OhMyGoodness while the old one is on the money.

But it'll be many years before my GS is retired and buy then, who knows what bikes will be like...
