I was working on this the last days. I copy / paste my message in a forum of Argentina. If someone can translate it, thanks! I find it hard to write in English!


Buenas gente, aca les traigo otra modificacion que habia prometido hace un tiempo. Si bien esta operativa, la idea en un futuro es cambiar su ubicacion al tacometro o tablero.
Se trata de un indicador de marchas/cambios. Ahorrense los comentarios de que es al pedo, de que se puede vivir sin el, y hasta que es de chica jaja, que coincido con todos, solo que no me puedo quedar quieto :)
Voy a poner el circuito electrico y algo asi como un paso a paso, muy basico, pero que muestra bien la idea. En componentes electronicos habre gastado algo de $5, unos $2.5 (siempre hablando de pesos argentinos, multipliquen por 6 para euro) en la cajita plastica donde lo aloje, y algun conectorcito mas. Compre todo hace tiempo pero es muy barato, yo por lo menos lo compre en las casas de electronica de la calle parana y ahi haces la diferencia comparado con la de tu barrio.

Bueno, manos a la obra.
La GS500 solo indica el Neutro, y para eso tiene, debajo de la tapa del piñon, un switch circular que manda a masa el unico cable que tiene conectado cuando tiene la posicion correcta. Lo que necesitamos seria un switch muy parecido, pero con contactos en las otras 6 posiciones de los cambios, ya hablaremos de eso...
El siguiente circuito esta modificado por mi, habia encontrado uno pero no estaba simplificado, tenia un integrado mas y era un bodrio, el de mi autoria y que yo use e invito a copiar, es el siguiente:



Que pasado a impreso y con los componentes montados queraria algo asi:



Bueno vamos a la parte artistica, elegi ubicarlo aca y mas o menos asi:



Pero despues me di cuenta que si limaba un poquito aqui y otro poquito alla dejando el plastico curvo, quedaria mas pasable:



Este es el plastico que use, era de otra forma y le di la actual a base de lija y dremel. Pueden ver las marcas de donde iria ubicado el display y del contorno de la chapa gris que sostiene los relojes (los extremos vas un poquito mas atras, sobre la carcaza de los relojes directamente).



Con el display de 7 segmentos presentado encima:



Sabia que no iba a poder hacerle un agujero cuadrado demasiado prolijo para encastrarlo, asi que fui a una casa de acrilicos donde me regalaron un pedazo de acrilico de unos 3 mm de espesor, fume, al que le di la forma de la parte que quedaria visible. Por debajo, el display ya incrustado:




Montando y probando funcionamiento (sin conexion con la moto todavia):








Y ahora la parte rata del tutorial, y la mas dificil y artesanal, el switch de 7 contactos. La GS500 dispone de uno de 1 solo contacto, para el Neutro, pero tiene espacio para fabricarle los demas. O, aca tienen el repuesto que tienen que comprar para cambiarlo directamente, no se de que moto es, pero seria lo idea claro si tenes la plata. Fijense la cantidad de contactos que tiene, se van a dar cuenta de la diferencia cuando vean el de uds:



Peeero, como cuesta casi $250!!!!! Y este tutorial es bien rata, vamos a destripar al pobrecito switch original, a perforarlo hasta que llore, y vamos a mardarle tornillitos con sellador que hagan de contactos, para soldarles cables en el otro extremo!

Pueden ver 3 contactos mas juntos que los demas, eso es porque el del medio es el original, del Neutro.
Ja! La alegria que tuve cuando vi que este engendro de switch funcionaba como debia!
Bueno gente, eso es todo, les dejo un videito para que terminen de ver el funcionamiento y listo. Tengo pendiente fabricarle alguna tapita de plastico, va de fibra, para que quede cerrada la parte trasera del display, ya vere como me las arreglo, le escapo a la fibra por ahora.

Isnt there a way to put a gear indicator on your bike already in the wiki?   If so could you just swap out the little screen that shows the number to this neat thing?  does that make sense at all or is it to early for me to be posting?

I just read the wiki.
Yes, that is the electrical circuit in which I was inspired. I was inspired by the idea, so I modified the circuit almost completely as you can see. Also the "BRIC" is totally different.
The electrical circuit that I propose is simpler, uses less power and occupies less space. And is mounted more "pro":)
