Hello folks,

My tank on my '90 GS500E has suddenly started leaking through many tiny pinholes all over the left side.  The inside is quite rusty as the drain was clogged for some time.  When I drained the gas into a clear container I couldn't believe how much water was in the gas - about 1/3! (And I'd been riding it like this, although its performance had continually dropped until it would no longer start)

I know all about Kreem, POR15, etc, but thought that would be good money after bad.  So, I bought a brand new, unused, but slightly dinged tank from an 08(?) GS on ebay for a fair price.  Now as I look I see it's  a different shape than my '90.

Someone told me these tanks are all interchangeable.   Will it fit onto my 90 without modification?

Thanks in advance,

It will fit without any real modification.  The main difference in fitment will be how the seat rests against the tank where the older style '90 the seat crothch went up the middle of the tank and the newer styles the seat kind of goes around the tank but your seat will still fit will just be kind of bunched riding up the back of the tank.  People have put newer tanks on with the older seat style without any problems.
K&N Lunchbox, Jardine Full Exhaust, 15T Front Sprocket, 40T Rear Sprocket, Shock Racing LED Mirrors, LED front blinker, LED Integrated Taillight, Additional LED rear blinkers, Scorpion sealed Battery, NGK Iridium Spark Plugs, Cafeboy seat cowl (in process of painting)

Excellent.  Good to know.  Thank you.   :thumb:

I guess my next question is, would a later model seat (that would fit this tank) work with my 1990 seat mount, just to get everything so it's not bunched up?

The seat should work fine, but if you replace the seat you're going to have to replace the tail bodywork and tail light too. The easier thing to do, would just be to trade me your tank for my '92 tank.  :thumb:

You see, if you give a mouse a cookie, hes going to want some milk.....

and the tail bodywork doesnt mount the same, so you would have to fabricate some mounts for them
