I'm new to the site fo forgive me if this has been tackeld before.  I have a 1992 GS500 that I bought last June with 9900 miles on it for $400.  It had been sitting forever so my brother and I went over it, cleaned the carbs and got it running great.  I ran it empty over the winter to re-paint and had it back together for the last 3 weeks.  It started right up and was running great again, then yesterday i started it and it was revving high then dropping down, I would turn the idle screw so much and nothing was changing.  Went like this for like 15 min. trying to figure it out, i finally turned the idle screw enough to adjust it, it was like i had it turned all the way down from the previous ride.  there isn't much hesitation when i roll on the trottle but when i back off to crusie with it i feel it pulling the dying then pulling and dying again.  when i roll on the trottle it pulls strong.  do i need to clean the carbs again??  unless my 4 yr old daughter was playing and turning the idle screw when i wasn't home i don't understand why the week before it was set at 1200rpm and yesterday feel like it was turned all the way down.  any feedback will be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading!!!

Air leak? that's not a real assessment. That's my guess. I'm gonna wait for some of the more knowledgeable people to come by and see if I was anywhere near correct.

Toledo Jim

Try running some SeaFoam through it.

+1. with it running, spray WD-40 around the intake boots. if the rpms change when you hit it with WD-40, your boots are leaking, and you are very happy because you just found the problem, and its a cheap fix. but chances are im wrong and some one smarter than me will tell you whats really up.
