well i came to the dark side :icon_confused:

owned two previous kawi's, was scooping kijiji and came across a 99 gs 500 with a wreaked motor, $300 latter she was mine

then dissembled the motor, turns out it spun a bearing, they wanted $250 to chrome the crank, and the motor had 25,000 miles so the hunt for a cheep motor started

found this, a 89 with 2,500 km, it was a demo bike that was dropped, then donated to a high school with no owner ship.  then a bunch of years latter a guy scooped it from the school and decided to make a custom frame, and register it as a custom bike, well he didn't finish it

so $350 latter i have a low millage engine and extra parts

going to be a busy week  :)

the last 500  :icon_razz:

was lots of fun, but after putting on 25,000km was time for a upgrade

well thats all for today

Question - is a 1989 motor exact the same as a 1999 ????????????????

thx

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMm ZX-6R  :kiss3:

Cool looking build.  I am lost as to what that front rotor is on the first GS though?!  I know I have seen it but it isn't EBC or Brembo (I think).

Motors will be the same. It appears they are both naked so there will be no oil cooler and the engines are the same.

That's a cool looking project he had going. The only problem is that the GS isn't a hanging engine, so I would've been kinda worried about that. Looks like you're making progress though.

Love those zx6rs. It took me a long time but I finally started to come around on them. It's one of my 3 picks for a next bike come this summer or fall(along with a gsxr750 and a Buell xb9/12s). I'll see which one pops up first when I'm ready to buy.

well was a busy day

the fleet

motor went in like butter however I am having a problem

when i first got the bike with the bad motor i tried hooking up my kawi battery and tried starting it

But the terminals are reverse polarity

so my question is what did i wreak, the one main fuse was burnt i changed that but still the bike doesn't have power

if anyone has any incite it would be appreciated

T1z3R

check the starter solenoid. give it a thump as it could have gotten stuck.

I did the same thing when I got a new battery, didn't realize the battery had the poles reversed. All it blew for me was the one fuse. So as long as you have that replaced, the circuit itself should be alright. Do like T1 suggested and check the starter solenoid, might try jumping the starter to see what happens. That way you're bypassing the safeties, wiring, etc.
2007 GS500F - 18k miles as of 7/15/2010

i did jump the sylonoid, and the engine did turn over

however i still have some big problem, maybe a relay or diod or something

gregvhen

was it you that said you had to get a new starter solenoid for $98? or was that a differant thread? if it was you, just go to the junk yard and get a solenoid cheap off a bike. those arent bike specific

#10
so i havent had time to diagnose the problem with the electrical system

however i would really like to get this bike running

so any other clue as to what i wreaked when i put the battery in reverse polarity ( backwards )

you guys think its the starter solenoid i would pick one up if i knew that was the problem a new one is 75 bucks

thx any input is appreciated
