It's not entirely the same here...I mean the 1.5 mile run they just say "Under 17 min" but a lot of it is "maximum number, minimum being".  It's my understanding that before you're admitted to the academy LPD has hired you becuase you're paid full benefits and salary while attending.  Some of it is still a bit smokey, though...haven't gotten all the details.  I'll have 3-months to sort that stuff out after the entry exam while they do backgrounds screens and what not.

What would you guys consider "safe" practice?  What I'm doing now is exploring what I CAN do.  As said, at the moment, I can run 3/8 mile...I think I can push to 1/2 mile, but I don't want to over-exert myself when I still have time to train properly.  I'm stretching before I run, though I do need to research some better "stretch" techniques.  20 (starting today) days puts me ahead of schedule.  I'm hoping that by this weekend I can run 1/2 mile with the same effort I need for 3/8 now.

What increments would you guys suggest I set my goals at?
id also suggest a bicycle ( rather heavy one) to build up leg and upper body endurance. i did a century ride on a 40lb walmart bike. dear god that was hell but it helped my body at teh time. i wished i had kept up wiht my health instead of let happen what is currently happening :( GL mak. keep us updated. ill come up wiht a wire figure for you to commemorate this accomplishment . ive lots of freetimke now :( BUT am glad to use it to congradulate others on their accomplishments

I passed the written and physical yesterday.  I've been preparing myself for it for a month nearly and was running an average of 13:10 for the 1.5 mile with my best time having been 12:12.  Practicing I was doing 1.5 miles at about 6am and then at about 10pm after the baby went to bed.  Yesterday running in 95 degree heat was hell...hardest run I've done...but I think I was trying too hard to keep up with a few of the other guys.  I ran 12:23 even after having to walk two 30 second legs so I was working a lot harder than I had planned.  Two guys ran the distance in 9 minutes...one was like 9:10 and the other 9:50...the instructors even asked the first guy if he grew up under power lines or something.

Now I got four months of background/financial checks and interviews to go through...if I make it through all that then I start the academy in November.

First day of the academy...50 push ups, 50 sit ups, 3 miles in 30 minutes, and 5 pull ups...or I'm out.

Congrats.  I'm going through the same process.  The academy starts in October for me, but I still have to go through the Oral Review, Psychoanalysis, and Polygraph.

If you keep training the exercises should be easy by the time the academy starts.
