Anyone have a bluetooth headset for their helmet? I want to listen to music on my phone as well as take calls. I have a full face helmet.

Any recomendations?

kman

I have just shoved my whole phone up into my helmet before to make calls.  I have a flip phone so the mouthpeice can get down by my mouth and it is sorta held in by the soft foam and the strap.  I think you would need a bluetooth with a longer microphone part then normal to get past the soft foam and by your mouth otherwise your voice may be muffled by that foam.  I used "communicators" at a car track day to talk to the instructor in the passenger seat and they have just an earpiece with a long microphone tube on it and a wire coming out.  something like that minus the wire would be good for a bluetooth.  haven't looked at any models in particular though

That's a nice setup too but since I already have a brand new helmet I think I will go with something installed on my current helmet that way I can swap it to different helmets...

I'm using a flat ear head phone with a 3.5mm jack, and a cheap bluetooth "stereo" headset.

Only down side is it doesn't have a microphone setup, but you shouldn't be on the phone whilst riding anyway.

I use mine for music and sat nav

I've been looking into these for a while.  Haven't had hands-on, though.
I don't like being tethered, either.

Here's a listing of the available helmets with bluetooth (there are 2 pages)
http://news.motorbiker.org/blogs.nsf/dx/Bluetooth-Helmets.htm
This one seems popular, but it has a single (mono) speaker:

This one works well, but the actual helmet SUCKS:

It's my personal opinion that this is better:

Notice the chin/neck enclosure.
It's wired, but I like keeping everything on my person instead of the handlebars.
Plus, bike-to-bike requires matching helmets.

Does the J & M have an earpiece or is it just an external speaker?

This is awesome, full A2DP bluetooth, and FM radio. The quality is pretty good, and the sound isn't bad.  If you aren't riding with a passenger then this is ideal. I have the Cardo Scala team set, and this is just as good as those units.  Looks almost the same, and the price is right.  May take a a week to be delivered. I use it with my iPhone, so I have full music, and navigation thanks to the Navigon app. If a call comes in, I can choose to answer by pressing a button on the headset.

Homer

Well that's interesting.
Free shipping, too.

Is it true you have to have matching units for bike-to-bike?
How loud do you have to yell for people to hear you at 80 mph?

It isn't all that bad, it is just as sturdy as the Scala Rider Teamset units and functions equally as well. Tuning the radio is a pain, but everything else works well.  For under $50, and free shipping, you can't really go that wrong.  The only thing is that it doesn't adjust the speaker volume based on the ambient noise.

Blueant..............Works great, ive had people comment that they didnt even know i was riding my bike. Voice answer through my phone. You can play music through the phone and it will silence when a call comes in. Voice dial if you phone has it as an option. My wife has one as well and they work great from bike to bike once paired.

Hey, that site with the $45 bluetooth units has $13 taillight modulators!  They're usually $30 at JC Whitney.
They're temporarily sold out, though.

I'm getting one of the bluetooth units.  I'll let you know how it works out.

Tritium keychains for $8.
Better than buying a bunch of smoke detectors.  If you catch my drift...

any updates on how well this $50 bluetooth works?

Homer

What headset?

OH!  The one I bought and said I'd review!

I bought the Blue Ant F4.....works very well. Music sound quality could be better but its acceptable to me. Phone service works very well....as posted people on the other end can't tell I'm on the motorcycle. Overall easy to install and use. I haven used the interphone feature but I imagine its as good as making a cell call.

drduimstra

So Homer did you buy it? If so what you think?
