Carb Hose Routing????

Hello,

I've been lurking on these forums since I bought my 2007 GS500F last year. I have found this site to be extremely helpful. I have ran into a slight snag after taking the carbs out of the GS. I believe I may have connected one of the hoses up incorrectly. The bike seems to only want to run in PRI now.  If I put it on "ON" or "RES" it seems to begin to spit and sputter like it would do if it was going to run out of fuel. If I toss the switch to PRI all is well again.

I have searched the forum for a proper look at the way the hoses for the carbs go. I have a feeling the issue might be with the vacuum hose from the petcock. It seems a lot of users here have the older pre 2001 GS's, which seem to not have all of the hoses on the carbs like mine do. I believe this is a vacuum issue since I wasnt able to do anything but remove the carbs, since I realized my Philips Head was only going to strip the screws on the carb bowls. I have a Haynes Manual as well, but it doesnt go into extreme detail about all of the hoses.

I took a few pics of how everything looks now. Hopefully, that will help assist with showing where I went wrong

your diagnosis seems to be right, but I have no idea what all those vacuum lines are doing.  I assume your in california with cali emissions.  I would personally rip all that crap out, but I dont have to pass emissions testing.  one of those vacuum lines should hook up to the vac port on the petcock

I don't think it's part of that system. I bought the motorcycle from a dealership in Ohio where I live. I know the pre 2001+ models seem to have the vacuum line from the petcock going to the left carb, but that was changed for later models like mine, so that may be another reason for the abundance of hoses on the right side. Looking in my service manual, it looks like a lot of them are part of the "Lift Control Valve" System.

if it were in front of me, I know I could figure it out, make sure there is a vacuum line going to the petcock, one of them should hook there

I went to double check on that. vacuum hose is still secure to the petcock, however, I'm curious of it's location afterward.  On the first two shots you will see it coming over the carbs and in the second I have it connecting to a black "T" connector on the right hand side. This is where I'm wondering it I may have missed the routing correctly.

I did a little more searching on the hoses and the hose from the petcock is the only one I'm unsure if I put in the right spot. From the 3rd and 4th picture it's easy to see what I have it hooked up to. I know for the 2001+ They moved it from connecting to the left carb to the right, but I'm not sure if I got it on the right spot. I think i'm going to swallow my pride on this one and let the dealership take a stab at it lol.

i think you have the two T's of vacuum lines, which are the main focus on the third image, hooked up wrong. they should not be directly hooked to each other like you have them.

That's what I was thinking. Both T connectors did not look like they should be combined like that.

Wow, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.  What are the two pieces mounted to the frame?

It looks like that was it, the tube between the two connectors needed to be reversed with one I had going into the lower port on the right carb. I could not give it a full test this time as one of the fuel hoses seems to have a small tear in it as it connects to the tank, so I'll be replacing that first, but I ran it until the carbs drained and it was acting normal again, not trying to die prematurely on me.

I've already ordered a new hose, so that should be in friday and then I can give it a full test  :).  Thanks to all who replied so far, the help was much needed with that mess haha.

According to Ronayers.com,  The metal piece is the "VALVE ASSY, 2ND AIR REED" and the black cylinder is the "CHAMBER, VACUUM."
