Hey Guys and Gals,

New to the site, in need of some assistance, recently i had the speedo just stop working when i was travelling down the motorway. Now i read a few things from the internet and it said how to look at the housing. Just out of curiousity, has anyone ever had the speedo cable sheer off or stop working on them before? ive checked the cable and it does rotate, and ive looked at where the housing links to the cable, making me think it is the speedo housing itself or the cog inside thats broken or the teeth have come away.

I think this requires dropping the front wheel out to sort. Any one ever had to do this/hints and tips for me? :thumb:

Thanks

Ross

im not quite sure if youre only changing the cable that you need to take the front wheel off. that would be something to wait for someone else to answer for you.
as for the cable end wearing out and/or the housing's port wearing out, that's a definite possibility.  you could also check if the cable just came loose or undone from the speedo. that's happened to me before xD
the only way to know what to do is if you check.

it's not very hard to take the front wheel off, especially since that's all you'd have to do.

as far as taking the front wheel off: put it on the center stand, loosen the axle bolts, use a jack or whatever else you have to prop up the front and pull the wheel off. good luck!
rustbucket on wheels that go vroom vroom and stuff.

If this freshershest-thread-ever gets spoiled by petty fighting, I'm gonna be so mad.

When my speedometer stopped working I checked the housing and the wire.  The wire was snapped off near the housing.  If you need a housing I have a spare.

Cheers for the tip, its definatley the housing as the cable rotates when twisted at both ends, and it was firmly in the clocks when i had it, even removed it and did it up tighter to check, gotta be the housing at the wheel!
