I lowered my forks since I don't have clip-ons anymore. Tightened and cleaned the chain.

Replaced the crash slider bolt and exhaust bolts that were damaged or lost in my last crash.

Gave the bike a quick bath.

Checked the valve clearances.

Attempted to track down the cause of the latest oil leak.

Removed my Renntec rear rack so I could sell it.

Also managed to mess up my choke cable. Now I have something else to work on!

Changed the oil and filter mesself, first time!

... Also, got to clean up a mess of liquid gasket, for the first time. Was slopped all over the place :(
So also bought myself my first bottle of permatex gasket remover

(was surprisingly difficult to find. Finally found it at my local autozone)

Works pretty good!
Used an old credit card as a scraper once the stuff had loosened up.

Didn't we take care of the sliders in the Bike Cave? Are you referring to a couple weeks ago when we did that or did I do something wrong?
Come over some evening and we can take care of the choke cable.

Got my other 07 running and tuned up. Cleaned the chain and went over the entire bike looking for loose bolts.

On my main bike, swapped out the frame petcock and fuel lines, added a Bandit 600 brake arm in preparation for my Katana rims that will go on soon. Also added a throttle cruise grip.

I still need to put in my Sonic springs. I also ordered my HID projector for the headlight and both GSXR 1100 rearsets for both sides with the quick shifter

Took her for a nice long ride since she had been under a cover for a week in the pouring rain.

A couple weeks ago you did give me a new slider, but I still had to replace the engine mount bolt with a threaded rod from Tacoma screw and replace the spacer that was lost in the crash with some SS washers. I actually decided to make the threaded rod and spacers a little longer so there was more thread purchase inside the slider and so the sliders would stick out far enough to be useful as highway pegs. I figure, if the sliders are going to break off anyways at anything other than a 0mph drop, they might as well serve a secondary purpose!

If anyone is curious, it is an M10-1.5 thread for the R&G sliders, which is kind of a weird thread size.

Added the Hippo Hands that showed up on my front porch today. That pocket of still air makes my heated grips so much more effective, all I needed were thin leather gloves and my hands were almost too hot. That has never happened before at 50 degrees on the freeway. Bring on the cold, my hands are no longer afraid.

Laid it down. Scuffed the V&H muffler, tore up the timing cover, bent the handlebars a little, and got a slight bit of road rash on my gut. Hopped on and rode it home. I need a beer.

Thanks, buddy. It sucks, but it could have been a lot worse. The bike is out of commission for the season, but as soon as I can get my spare engine out of storage, I'll pop the timing cover and signal generator assembly off that, buy some handlebars, and probably an SV650 throttle tube while I'm at it. As for the muffler....it'll buff out. :icon_lol:

Sorry to hear about it. You can always wrap the muffler in some material like I did mine. How did you get into the accident?

Make sure you crack your lower triple clamps Ross and turn your forks to release pressure on them.
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

I had to buy a new battery for mine today. Im sure it was the original from 07 and it seems the cold weather from last night killed it.

I also pulled off the exhaust, cleaned it and painted it with VHT paint.

Got a little too ambitious in a right turn, and neglected the fact that there was a bit of a bump in the road near the start of the turn. I leaned in pretty far, front wheel hit the bump and compressed the suspension, and I went down. Looked a little like this (video will come later):

Looks like the rear end slide out and then caught and tossed you over.  Hope that you are ok and not too much damage.

BockinBboy

Glad to see the gear was on!  Its always troubling to hear when a rider goes down, I hope you and your bike recover quickly.

Nah, it was a low side. Lost the front end when I hit the bump.

Yeah, I looked more closely at the pictures and realized what happened.  I had the wrong perspective on the second picture.

Well, it's been a tough relationship with the GS. I get it out about every 2 weeks, even if it's just to get it warmed up and ride it around the block. Unfortunately the last trip I was on I discovered a rather major oil leak at a gas stop (at idle about a drip every 30 seconds, I suspect much more when I'm out and about). I topped off the oil and put the rest of the quart in my tank bag just in case and started towards the Ferry back home. After a bit of conference with bluesmudge and a little cleaning and poking around down there, I think I didn't properly torque down the bolts on the oil filter when I changed just under a thousand miles ago. SO I've bought more oil, went to the dealer and picked up the filter and gasket, now I'm just standing by for a couple hours to drive over to my parent's and do the job! We're supposed to have a spot of sunny weather here in Seattle these next couple days, hoping to get out.

At least, I WAS hoping to get out, until I looked at my keyring today, and realized somehow my Suzuki key (which I've been meaning to get a copy made of all summer) has somehow managed to snap clean in half, with no indication of where the other half is  :dunno_white:. SOO, Looks like I'll be stopping by the bike cave soon to talk to Adidas and figure out what I can do :thumb:
When in doubt, empty the magazine.

Bought new grips, bars and a generic integrated bolt on tail light. Fabbed up a "Moto GP style" trumpet exhaust with no baffles, man that thing is obscenely loud! Will be adding a baffle for sure. K&n pod filters and 150 jets goin in after I chop the tail and seat! Winter project here I come!
